Boots No7 Instant Radiance Concealer

by Lina on April 28, 2009

If I’m brutally honest, I haven’t used a Yves Saint Laurents’ Touch Eclat for many years. I think there are great cheaper alternatives on the market today, and one of which is Boots No7 Instant Radiance Concealer.

I love how these high lighting pens are still classed as concealers, when let’s face it, they’re useless at actually concealing any kind of spots! What they are great for is dark circles, shadows, high lighting and bringing more dimensions and radiance to the face. They keep your face from looking dull and flat. As I hardly ever get spots (I’m on the other end of the spectrum, dry skin), all I really ever need concealer wise is a high lighting pen to finish my make-up. I’ve tried a great deal over the years and can vouch for this product genuinely working.

At only £12.50, it is almost half the price of the Touch Eclat. Admittedly, the packaging isn’t as fancy but in all honesty that doesn’t bother me so long as it doesn’t leak or break or anything. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the Touche Eclat, then you’ll have to sacrifice a few things in the process. It comes in a simple black plastic pen, with gold writing on. Nothing special but not completely hideous either. You get a clicker at the end, with a brush at the other, and a lid that covers it. It comes in two shades, a pink tone (1) and a yellow tone (2), the one I’m reviewing here is the yellow tone one (2).

Application
When I apply this I always give it two clicks and then do some stripes under both eyes, the sides of my nose and in the hollow of my chin, straight after foundation. You can also apply this much later in the make-up stage, like when the make-up is almost complete, as a finishing product. Sometimes I apply it at both times! Once you’ve done your stripes, I’d advise to blend quickly as this product sets incredibly fast, which is something I like about it. At first you’ll notice that those areas are particularly pale, but don’t worry, It adapts to your skin after a few moments!

Verdict
I found the coverage of this product amazing, it fully covered all my dark circles and shadowy areas with a nice matte finish. I really noticed a difference and have always been happy with the end result. It never cakes or become too dry, which from my early memories of the Touch Eclat that often was a problem. The only fault I have against it is that the shade 2 is possibly a little too pale, and thus not suitable for all yellow skin tones. I feel I can just about get away with it, but I am light skinned Asian. Also, this could be because it colour adapts so well, but I find I often need to touch up frequently, as I find after a while those areas I used it on aren’t as bright as they were initially.

Having said that, this an amazing product for the price, it actually does make a difference to your make-up, also fab as an eyeshadow base if you so wish. It finishes my look and fulfills my needs perfectly, another great product from Boots No7!
