The best high street hair mask I’ve ever tried?

by Lina on August 14, 2011

Ever since I discovered that high street shampoos and conditioners weren’t in fact bad for your hair, and that the whole silicones building up threat was completely untrue for the new formulations out on today’s market, I’ve been busy trying a few out. For regular readers, you’ve probably noticed me mention more than once in previous posts how horribly dry and damaged my hair has been of late, ever since I’ve started colouring it really. Being naturally jet black (and we’re talking blackest or the black) even lightening it a few shades wreaked havoc for its condition, and I’ve seen been really struggling with trying to find a good shampoo and conditioner that nourishes it appropriately. Well, call off the search as I’ve found something that actually leaves it silky. Yes, not just vaguely less hay stacky – silky! And it’s from the high street?

Herbal Essences Smooth and SoftI was given the shampoo, conditioner and intensive hair mask from the Herbal Essences Smooth and Soft range to try. The first thing that will hit you about this product is the gorgeous fruity smell (we’ll touch on that later), the second thing is how instantly moisturising the mask is. However, as lovely as all that is what really makes this range so great is what happens after you wash it. After blow drying, hair is unbelievably silky. And it smells SO GOOD. Not just the first day of hair wash either, your hair smells gorgeous well into day 3 – until it’s due another wash, really. I’ve only used this range three times in total (I should mention here that I’ve still yet to try the conditioner; why bother when the mask is this good?), and so far my hair is still loving it. I genuinely can’t believe how silky it leaves my damaged hair, to the point that I was considering getting it all cut off as the condition was so awful but now realise I don’t have to anymore – a simple trim will suffice. I can keep my long hair, hooray! All thanks to this hair mask.

I’ve tried so many deep treatment masks, from cheap to high end, and this has without a doubt become my favourite. It might be too greasy for those whose hair isn’t that damaged, but it is a product for damaged/dry hair so if your hair isn’t that type then you shouldn’t be using it. However if you hair is in a bad state, over chemically treated, lost it’s vitality, I highly recommend giving this a try. It’s currently half off in Superdrug so what better time to test it out than now?

Have you tried it yet?

Thanks for this review. My hairs bleached, and its dry right now. Ive spent so much of hair masks and nothing works!!
im going to give this a go now!

  2. OOOH my hair is completely frazzled! I dye my hair a few shades darker but I still get bits breaking off the ends from my straighteners! I might pick it up when I go into town tomorrow :)

  3. I’ve got the split ends version of this conditioner and it’s amazing! It leaves my hair so silky and soft. I didn’t realise how good it was until I changed to another and switched back x

  4. At last, someone else that’s not freaking out about the silicones thing! Sheesh. And isn’t it funny how the companies immediately took advantage of that trend & started releasing new “improved” products?
Anyhoo, I also love Herbal Essenses. Yummiest smells around!

My hair is also really dark and down to my waist – I only ever wash my hair with Herbal Essences.
    1. It smells amazing, and as you said longer than normal ones.
    2. Leaves your hair so soft, even after blow drying. I’d recommend the conditioner especially in conjunction with the shampoo.
    3. I always get told how shiny my hair looks after having used it.
    4. It’s priced good, normally like £3 for a big bottle, but it is alwaaays on offer for half price in Superdrug/Tesco/Boots (suggest alternating if it goes back to normal price during a week)

Ok, so having just bought some of the Herbal Essences hair mask, slightly disappointed to say it looks to be just their conditioner, in a tub, for a higher price.
Luckily I got it half price (superdrug offer) but you still get more in a 400ml £1.69 bottle than you do a 200ml £1.99 tub.

  7. The best hair mask I’ve used is the one from Pro Naturals, it’s got argan oil in it and I read that it was really really good for hair. Well it DID improve my hair quite a bit, and I’ve only used it twice!
