Yesterday was a full on grooming day! I hadn’t had my eyebrows threaded for over a month as I was growing them back (an overzealous threader made them too thin the last time), but finally decided they were thick enough to get re-shaped! I’m very, very fussy with my eyebrows and for that reason will travel pretty far to make sure the job gets done right. Currently, I’m loving HENA salons in Finchley, my particular lady is called Bounty and she understands exactly what I like in a brow; thick and long.
It only costs £7, which falls well into my theory about eyebrow threading – any more than a tenner and the brow job actually decreases in skill. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. The ones who are cheaper will definitely have more experience as they’ve been doing it for years and years, long before threading became big globally, and they tend to go through dozens of eyebrow threadings daily, so really know what they’re doing and have so much experience. You can go really cheap and find places that offer to thread for something ridiculous like £2, but I find the best bet it around the £7 mark as they really listen to what you want but still have the skill and expertise to know confidently what they’re doing (the super cheaper ones often don’t listen at all to what you ask and just do what they want, rushed).
I also got a my teeth cleaned yesterday! Which doesn’t sound that exciting but what I had done was a fancy High Gloss Diamond Polish* at Smilepod. The whole treatment consists of having a consultation and check up, regular teeth cleaning and polish, intense stain removal with high power air jet, followed lastly with a high gloss polish using DIAMOND paste! I swear my teeth have never felt so clean, squeaky clean, and were so much brighter! They are situated all over central London so perfect for those who want to fit in dental care at their convenience whilst at work. I usually spend around £50 for a regular teeth clean, however this High Gloss Diamond Polish costs £85 so not that much extra for all the added benefits. It’s definitely something I could see myself treating myself to once a year or something, every other teeth clean perhaps. Also, just wanted to add that the staff were really, really friendly and helpful, especially my Dentist, Caroline. She actually went beyond the call of duty and had some concerns about a couple of things like my excessively dry, pale lips, and told me to go to my GP and get checked out for Anaemia! I have always suspected I was Anaemic because I’m always tired, weak, pale and sickly, however none of my doctors have ever thought to test me (in fairness I never asked them to). I will definitely follow this up though and am very impressed she spotted the symptoms.
Whilst we’re on the subject of teeth, I’ve been using Oral-B 3D White Brilliance* the last month or so and it’s without a doubt the best toothpaste I’ve ever used. I drink a lot of black and herbal tea and am really paranoid about my teeth being stained or yellow; I feel they’re never as white as I want them to be. However since using this new toothpaste I literally saw an improvement within DAYS. They claim it takes two weeks to start seeing results but for me it was so much quicker. Plus, my teeth are not sensitive at all from it, which is a rarity for such a whitening product! A definite first for me and will 100% continue to use and repurchase.
So I feel nice and fully groomed for the bank holiday weekend ahead – or at least my face is!

That’s interesting that you can just just waltz in and get your teeth cleaned in England (and even get a whitening!) Here in the US, you definitely can’t do that. You need an appointment and you have to go to your normal dentist, where you have your X-Rays on file, unless your switching dentists and then they’ll do a consult, and probably take a set of X-Rays. You can’t just GO IN and do a cleaning.
You just reminded me I need my brow done by Katie (not me, but my brow stylist Katie at Benefit in Ulta.) Katie is my sole maintenance gal as she knows how I like them. I pay a bit more than you ($21 and I get tweezed), but she’s the only one who doesn’t try thinning out my brows! It’s sacrilege to her. All the threaders at the malls want to thin mine out, so I’m out of the chair in five seconds. Katie is my woman. It does help that we have the same name (and we spell it the same way!)
I know, right? I have my regular dentist also but like the idea of being able to pop in for a teeth clean or whitening. I guess if your teeth are very complex you’re better off sticking to your normal dentist but otherwise I guess there’s no big risk! x
I love having my eyebrows threaded, I used to tweeze my own but they never look as clean/defined as threading makes them xx
Threading is the way forward – I wouldn’t even know HOW to tweeze mine anymore if for some reason threading became obsolete or something! xx
Lina, Finchley is near me! Even better is their branch in Mill Hill (my local) though I suspect Hena charges more in MH…
