An introduction to Biotherm!

Biotherm kindly invited us Handpicked bloggers to an event at the Langham Hotel for afternoon tea on Saturday. It was lovely, there were plenty of cakes and delicious things (see the obligatory yummy food pics above), but we also had the opportunity to learn more about the brand in general and also have our skin tested with the Biotherm Bioscan – a device that summarises the situation of your skin with regards to dehydration, oiliness and elasticity!

I love skin tests like these and happily volunteered to go first (I checked briefly to see whether it involved any make-up coming off and as it didn’t I literally sprung to it!). All it took was the Bioscan being pushed into your cheek, making your face all podgy, and then from that act the machine gave results (with relevance to your age).

I think this picture is a worrying indication of what I would look like with cheek implants and too much collagen..

Me getting my diagnosis, thanks to Yinka for taking these pics, btw!

Computer says I was a little dehydrated, a little oily (but we suspected that was down to my ‘dewy’ make-up more than skin) and a whooping 90% high in elasticity. So overall I’m very pleased with those results. As my skin did seem a little dehydrated Biotherm recommended that I use their hero wonder product Source Therapie – which I was just so happen to have been given in my goody bag! Will definitely be trialing this out so keep an eye out for that post!

I also discovered they have an amaaaaaaazing body lotion, their Oil Therapy Baume Corps, which I sneakily covered myself in right then and there. It instantly turned my skin into silk and smelt divine! Another product I was massively impressed by from concept alone was their eye cream from the sun care range, the Eye Contour Sun Sensitive.

The full sun care range

It had SPF 30 and could be worn all year round, not just in extreme sun conditions. You do not know HOW LONG I have been searching for a high SPF eye cream, as really, surely that’s the place you need protection most? My eyes are the part I am most concerned about with regards to wrinkles and fine lines so super happy to have discovered something that will eliminate a massive factor to their cause.

The afternoon was so much fun, big shout out to the Biotherm press girls for a lovely, delicious event. Can’t wait to start trialing the products in my goody bag!

Biotherm Aquasource Non Stop Mask

I was actually sent a couple of pieces from the Aquasource range for review, but unfortunately the gel moisturiser was for completely the wrong skin type to me (it was for normal to combination, I am dry to veeeery dry) so you’re only getting the face mask review here. Not fair to say a cream for combo skin was too drying for me when it wasn’t designed for my skin type!

What Biotherm say:

“Perfectly hydrated skin is also revitalized thanks to a concentrate of spa water activity based on Pure Extract of Thermal Plankton and trace elements, as if you were treating yourself to a real spa bath right in your very own home. With new-found well-being, this gel mask instantly restores suppleness and comfort, with balance assured by natural oil (oil of palm). The skin’s thirst is quenched, giving a sensation of comfort and freshness when applied. Skin feels supple.”

This Biotherm face mask was a luxury to use! Once a week, after I’ve exfoliated I like to treat myself to a highly intensive moisture face mask, my skin really appreciates the pick me up and this helps prepares it for the ruining I undoubtedly will do to it over the weekend (Thursday eve is usually exfoliation and mask day for me).  I slap this on, leave it for the minimum of ten minutes (I have in the past left it on for hours whilst watching tv), then gently wipe off excess and add a little regular moisturiser on top then off straight to bed. My skin is like silk in the morning and completely nourished! Exactly what I had wanted.

It comes in a pale pink tube, and the product itself is a similar shade. There’s a pleasant fragrance to it, but not overwhelming. One of the things that often leave me wary of skincare products is the strong fragrance that is a telltale sign that my sensitive skin will react, this didn’t irritate my skin in the slightest. Applying it was easy too, it spreads ever so smoothly so you get none of that gunky ‘peaks and troughs’ that you can get with other face masks – it was actually bizarrely satisfying getting a completely smooth finish!

Although I’ve not read this anywhere I was told by Biotherm’s press that the Aquasource range lowers the skin’s temperature so the skin doesn’t overheat (anyone with eczema/sensitive skin knows how overheated skin feels; hot and itchy!), and regarding this product I certainly noticed my skin never overheated whilst using and the mask was consistently cool and refreshing  – so something worth bearing in mind for those who do suffer from temperature sensitive skin.

There’s really not much else I can say about this product as the masks sole purpose is an ‘SOS Hydratant’, and that it does perfectly! If you’re expecting tightening of pores or deep cleansing this is probably not the product, but I found it does help with pesky dehydration lines and certainly for dehydrated skin in general. Although I generally use it once a week on ‘exfoliation and mask’ night, I have used it on a Sunday when I’ve slept in my make-up the night before (yep, I’m that gross) and my skin could really do with an intensely moisturising treatment simply to put some of the comfort, nourishment and care back into it. It’s a great product for anyone with normal/sensitive to drier skin and at only £20 it’s actually not that expensive! Perfect perfect perfect for getting moisture back into my skin and I reckon anyone with dry or mature skin could really appreciate the benefits of this.
