SS10 new products from Sleek, GOSH, Bloom and more!

I went to the Superdrug Spring/Summer 2010 press day on Wednesday and here is the lo-down on the best new products to greet us in a month or two!

To start with I was quite impressed with Superdrug’s own sun care range Solait bringing out these gorgeous new bronzers!

The larger was a gorgeous dull brown, not orange, perfect for most complexions. And the shimmer brick, well, I have my heart set on that already…

Sleek have two new i-divine palettes coming soon.

And these gorgeous liquid eyeliners. They also have a yellow pout polish – woah!

Bloom are bringing out a gradual self tanner!

GOSH have these to die for nail shades coming out.

I actually got mine painted on the day with the very chic grey shade, although this unfortunately won’t be out for another month – sob! Hope this manicure lasts a while…

They also had two new priming products, and one line perfector – designed to fill in lines temporarily before make-up. The priming products were for the eyes and lips.
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Primer

And new lip glosses, including a black which is fairly transparent but apparently best worn over a lipstick as it intensifies the brightness and makes it really luscious! I wore it here over my red lippy.

New eye quattros, too. Notice the change in package design!

Now here is the biggest success of the day in my eyes – Famous by Sue Moxley. I had never heard of the range prior but it looked so beautiful and the quality appears to be amazing! Cannot wait to get hold of some of these products and properly test them out!
These eye palettes are only £9!

Shimmer Bricks..

So that’s my round up of the best upcoming products for Spring/Summer 2010 from Superdrug! What do you guys think? I’m itching to try them! Oh, by the way – Superdrug are offering free delivery till 9th February, so check them out online HERE.

Bloom Pure Mineral Foundation Powder in Dark

I was sent this mineral foundation a couple of weeks ago for review. Not usually one for a powder foundation as my skin is dry, I tend to prefer liquids so really wasn’t expecting this to be the best fit. But surprisingly, it did actually surpass my expectations.. eventually!

Application
Like most mineral powder foundations, it comes in a little pot, with a screw top lid, and a few holes in the plastic shield to shake the product out.
I have to admit I did find trying to shake some product out incredibly tiring and frustrating as only a tiny amount would ever come out each time (I imagine because the holes are too small), so you were continuously trying to shake more product out. I think the reason this happens is because Bloom suggests using a small amount of product first, and then building up. This is understandable, but still very annoying (especially if getting ready for work whilst short of time) and most will agree the amount that shakes out is ridiculously too low.
Once you’ve shaken out the product on to the lid, you then swirl into it with your mineral powder brush, tap off the excess, and then finally apply by buffing onto your skin.

Verdict
When I first applied this it was morning and I didn’t notice any difference on my skin – at the time I felt the shade was just a touch too dark and only noticed any effects of the foundation because my face appeared a little darker. I had applied several layers of the powder but felt I wasn’t gaining much coverage. I suppose I could see some evening out, but it certainly wasn’t by no standard to my normal foundations.

However, by evening I casually looked in the mirror and noticed my skin had a pretty illuminated glow to it, and actually looked like I had a (albeit slight) light base on. The colour match looked better (although still a tad too dark), and I was actually quite pleased with the result! This lead me to believe that this is actually a better night time foundation as the subtle illuminating shimmer in it that is usually washed out in daytime is brought out in evening light, and you can see how it softtly provides a delicate veil over your skin.

(you can see where I added a highlighter concealer pen under my lip! Oh dear..)

As I mentioned, having dry skin, a pure powder product is not normally what the doctor orders! But I have to say, my skin didn’t feel tight or uncomfortable the whole day/night I was wearing it. And it felt so soft and smooth; I do remember stroking my face and being alarmed by how great it still felt (considering I’m wearng a powder product only!). If you have very oily skin, this might not be mattifying enough, but I do believe that most skins will be fine with this, providing you don’t want a powdery matte finish (but also not dewy).

I’d say it lasted pretty long on, as I did apply it in the morning and then noticed it looking great in the evening, and that was without any touch ups. But I would suggest maybe concealing first before applying for day time – in order to get some coverage where you need it. All in all, I think my first experience of a mineral foundation has been positive – and I’m sure that’s largely due to this particular mineral foundation more than mineral foundations in general (you gotta remember, I’m a dry skinned gal!). But I will stress that it hasn’t left me a convert, I still prefer my liquid foundations by far. Great for if you have good skin already or don’t like wearing make-up, but really not enough for most of us!

Bloom Lip Stain in Cinnamon and Peach

Wow, my laptop FINALLY arrived through my door about half an hour ago – yes, it was supposed to arrive on Friday but it didn’t. It came on Tuesday, after about 50 calls from me to them and A LOT of stress. I think I will be writing a letter of complaint but right now I’m just soooo happy to have it back, and anyway there are more pressing matters at hand; like my long awaited Bloom Lip Stain review!

Application
To apply these felt tip lip stains, Bloom advise you to outline and fill your lips in with the product. This does work, but it also applies the product quite strongly – what I found worked best was to do a swipe in the center of the bottom lip, and as the product is quite liquid I quickly rubbed my lips together and used my finger to blend it out evenly over both lips. This provided a gorgeous flush of colour to your lips without looking too severe, which you can then easily build to whatever you desired colour depth is!

Verdict
Love it. It does take some getting used to, and you have to realise its limitations but once you do, it is a great little lip product! Applying it the way I described above looked so pretty, and definitely the sort of look I would hope to achieve with a stain. One of my biggest complaints with stains in general is that they adhere patchily to dry skin on your lips, giving your lips an uneven cover of colour. But with this stain I didn’t have this problem. Yes, it wasn’t exactly the same as a blanket on monotone colour like a lipstick is, but it just looked like how I’d always imagined good stains to look on the lips; like a sheer wash of colour delicately over the lips.

As I mentioned, there are limitations with this product, one being it’s lasting power. Unlike most stains, it doesn’t actually last that long – not what you’d usually expect with a stain atleast, although I must add still a remarkable length of time! Probably the same amount of time as most matte lipsticks, possibly even slightly less (MAC lipsticks suddenly sprang to mind). This didn’t really bother me as reapplying was easy, thanks to the way it doesn’t cling onto dry skin so you can easily add more as if starting from a clean slate due to your lips remaining so smooth and supple still. But if you’re looking for something that lasts through everything; eating, drinking, smoking, kissing, this probably isn’t it. It can start to disappear after food and drinks won’t help either. On the plus side to that, it doesn’t dry your lips out too severely while it’s disappearing, and if it does, you can do what I did and add some lip balm on top! I found adding some balm literally transformed the look of the stain from a matte product to a gorgeous liquid lipstick! It was amazing, the colour just ‘popped’ out. I imagine the results would be even more startling with a gloss on top!

with lip balm on top
So unless you can’t tell already, to say I’m pleased with this product is a staggering understatement! It has taken prized place as my new lip product of choice (till I get bored, anyway!), love love LOVE it. I initially thought I’d prefer the Peach to the Cinnamon, but now after wearing I actually think I prefer the Cinnamon! Strange considering brown lippy is really not my bag. Let me know what you guys think!
Much love,
