Boots Xmas Press Show!

On Thursday I took a trip to Marylebone Road to visit the Boots Xmas press show. It was an open day that finished at 6pm, and being typically late I got there at 5 so missed a lot of the celeb guests (FEARNE COTTON), but I did manage to score a sneaky peek of what you guys have to look forward to in time for Christmas this year!

An extension of their collaboration with Sex and the City 2, Boots have partnered up one last time to bring us these fabulous look books. Each book, specifically designed and thus titled after each main gal from SATC, retails at £8 and will include 4 eyes shades and 1 lip shade.

Cute, huh? I didn’t stick my greasy fingers in any to test the textures as they looked pretty pristine still and didn’t want to ruin them, but I was instantly drawn to the SATC cover so reckon these will be a big hit regardless of quality.

Next biggie of the event was Fearne Cotton’s foray into the cosmetic world! As I mentioned above I missed getting to meet her, technically, but as I was entering the event she was leaving so I managed to sneak a sly glance – all I remembered was she had GREAT stamps (they were purple suede ankle boots, if I remember correctly!).

I loved the packaging of her brand, called simply ‘Fearne’. Very twee and full of florals – right up my street! I was told she was very hands on with designing the packaging and the concept of the brand, and I love what I’ve seen so far regarding this. As you can see from the picture above, she showcased her brand with an afternoon tea – how lovely!

Psst! I have that exact tea pot and matching tea set at home! Told ya I liked this kinda shiz.

SNB14031

The products consist largely of big chunky eyeliners and eye shadows, as Fearne herself is a big fan of these types of products. Although she didn’t formulate the products herself she did veto the textures and chose the colour palettes. I swatched some of the eyeliners and they did seem pretty good – nice and hard but with good colour pay off. Apparently she had actually advised them to make them (and other products) more pigmented after the initial mock-ups were made which bodes well in my opinion.

At the moment, for Christmas, there will be just gift sets. But possibly in the future there will be plans for individual products that are on a permanent collection, available all year round.

Strictly Come Dancing have also started their own make-up range! Strictly’s Make-up Artist Lisa Armstrong personally showed me around it, woo-hoo!

Inside..

They had heaps of others sets too, ranging from £6 to £30. Pretty good quality from the stuff I managed to have a play with, but Lisa herself didn’t play a part with the colour selection or formulations which is a bit disappointing.

Gok Wan is doing his Xmas Gorgeous range again this year! I get a lot comments asking if he will so I hope you’re happy he is!

And lastly Boots No7 and 17, both focusing heavily on the eyes this Winter..

SNB14041

The glitter eyeliners from 17 looked amaaaazing, the glitter was so fine – not chunky and garish as one would expect from a ‘teenage’ brand glitter liner. I was given a purple one to take home which I can’t wait to try out!

No7 will also be launching these cute little eye shadow palettes..

SNB14043

I was instantly drawn to these teeny circles of colour. I want!

Regarding Christmas gift sets I was rather taken with this vanity case that came filled with useful tools such as eye lash curlers, nails clippers and make-up brushes, etc.

SNB14036

SNB14037

If I was a girl who only had a little make-up, not the obsessive amounts I actually have, I would 100% want this. You can take the plastic cases holding the tools out and just fill this with make-up, it’s so useful! And at £40 a TOTAL steal!

They’re also bringing out this cute brush set.

SNB14033

And I’m not sure why I was so drawn to this very neutral eye palette..

SNB14034

But I was (it does come with a lip gloss as well so not entirely an eye set).

So that’s all my snaps from the Boots Xmas press event! Most of these products will start to come out around October and will be continue to remain out for the duration of Xmas; so you’ve got a good while to decide what to get and who to give it to! Got your heart set on anything?

17 Lasting Fix Nail Polish in Tropical Island

SNB13241

I came across this gorgeous nail varnish in the Boots bargain bin, no less! It actually wasn’t me who found it, it was my ma (she’s so good at hunting the bargain) and she paid £1.50 for a little make-up a bag containing a nail file, a mirror, this varnish and some other bits and bobs, amaaaazing value, huh? Being the greedy bitch that I am I instantly took the nail varnish off of her as it looked like such a pretty coral colour, but I honestly wasn’t expecting much as I rather ignorantly disregarded it as a cheap brand thus equaling cheap quality.

SNB13222

How wrong was I! I love this varnish, the quality is amazing – it dries sooo quick (I was out the door after application within 5 mins!), is fairly chip resistant, massively easy to apply thanks to its new ‘precision brush’ and most importantly, looks so pretty on. You can wear it very subtly with just one sheer coat, or like I have chosen to do you can layer a couple more and get a deeper intensity. In my opinion it looks best with two coats, a perfect semi transparent tropical coral sorbet (a third would make it full coverage, I’m verging on the third territory above), and there was no need for a topcoat as it’s so glossy! Oh yeah, and it has gorgeous ever so subtle shimmer that gives it the delicatest little sparkle upon closer inspection.

I am now a total convert to these nail varnishes by 17 and am itching to test more in the hope they are all of the same outstanding quality. The best thing about it (well, one of the best things as there’re so many) is that one of these nail varnishes will only set you back £2.99! AND I’ve checked and this beautiful colour is still current stock (despite my mums’ brilliant WIN of this in the bargain bin) and further more, there is a ‘two for £5’ offer on right now! So you can buy two for only five English pounds. Amazing.

I seriously think this nail varnish goes in my top 5 for quality and consistency, for me and this shade it is absolutely perfect.

You can buy 17 Lasting Fix Nail Varnish in Tropical Island (and other shades) from Boots (www.boots.com) for £2.99 (or on offer for 2 for £5!).

Boots 17 100 Sunset Kiss Lipstick

Oh yes, some more lipstick reviews! The shade I’m reviewing here is a little subtler than the ones of recent and also of a brand I have no previous posts on, so it’s about time Boots No7s’ little sister brand 17 got a mention here on MUTMO!

100 Sunset Kiss is a pale coral shade. As part of the Lasting Fix range, this lipstick claims to stay put for upto four hours – let’s see how it did…

Application
I really like the way this lipstick applies; it’s got a bit of a grip to it making it remarkably adhere only to the areas you wish it to. I found two swipes works best to get a good colour pay off, and it felt really lovely and creamy – but not too much so to worry about bleeding or smudging.

Verdict
It is a good budget lipstick, but not the best. As I mentioned above I really like the way it applies, and once on I had high hopes about it lasting the full four hours as it felt so nice on the lips, matte but not dry, really comfortable to wear. However I’d say it actually only lasts a good two hours on, and far less if you’re eating and drinking. Having said that, it doesn’t leave you lips appallingly dry from constant reapplying, and I actually felt my lips looked in pretty good shape once the trial of this product was done; a good night sleep with a good lip balm sorted any of the ever so slight dryness I had gotten from it.

Colour wise I think it’s quite lovely, and nice for summer if you don’t want too much of a bold look. It does look pretty on but I’m not sure I can be bothered to keep reapplying it every two hours so will probably not wear this again because of this. I like my make-up to keep working long after I’ve given up looking after it! But if you feel you could happily reapply every couple of hours then go for it! After all, it is a pretty shade… You can pick this lipstick up at Boots.
