Check out this ‘hot’ little number..

What do we think of my leather skirt? I picked this up during the Elle and H&M Networking Event last week where we were offered 20% off on anything from H&M for the entire eve. I wanted to buy so much stuff but I’m currently on a spending ban as am off to New York in a couple of weeks so need to save my pennies for all the spending then!

However this skirt was as cheap as chips, and even cheaper with the added 20% deductions! So I couldn’t resist. I bought it in a size 8, as there were no 6′s available, and it fits fine.. I suppose.. A bit loose around the waist but I have a feeling the 6 probably wouldn’t go past my hips so I guess the 8 was prolly the best size for me!Really like it, it is a touch on the rocker/fetish side and let’s face it, it’s hardly class personified, however I am modelling it here with just a corset bralet so you could easily team it with a shirt and it’ll definitely look a lot more sophis.

One small problem though, being ‘pleather’, and high waisted, it makes my stomach sweat like crazy! Seriously, this skirt is not to be rushed around in! The only thing I can think of for a more comfortable wear is to pull my tights up waaaay past my stomach, as a protective barrier between my bare skin and the unbreathable fabric, but to be honest I don’t think that’s really working out.. There has to be another solution other than that? Any suggestions? Wrap my stomach in absorbent bandages??

I also tried on this lace(y) dress below, which I really liked, but felt because of the length it made my legs look too dumpy. WHY doesn’t H&M do a petite range?!!Adore the slouchy fit and cap sleeve, and in retrospect think it would actually look quite cool with some massive statement block heels, like my JC Lita’s for instance, just something to add a little extra length to my legs.. So maybe I’ll go back and check it out again..

What do we think guys?

Shoes, Jacket, Rings and Tings..

Jacket
I’ve been desperate for an old man’s chequered blazer for so long, ideally in brown, made from tweed or some other heavy fabric, with elbow patches and huge boxy shoulders.. Well, despite searching high and low there were none to be found that had that real vintage look I craved, until I spied this one from River Island. It wasn’t brown, admittedly, and didn’t have the elbow patches, but it was chequered and in heavy material with big boxy shoulders. Semi-perf. I got the size 8 as even though the 6 fitted fine, I really wanted it to look boyfriend-esque on me with the option of wearing it over jumpers, etc, so it had to be the 8. A few people have commented that the jacket is far too big for me but they clearly don’t understand the look I’m going for (heh)! I really like the big boxy shoulders on me, that was one of the key things I was looking for. I wanted it to look like a hand-me-down from my dad/grandad, something genuinely owned by a man prior.I prefer it with the sleeves rolled up and pushed up towards my elbows, however they never stay up! I am forever pushing them back up which is getting really annoying – any tricks to keeping them in place that I’m missing?? Talking of elbows, thinking of also adding some elbow patches, maybe black leather or possibly corduroy.. Again, any suggestions on how to do this?

Rings
Discovered this kitch jewellery place called Chelsea Doll the other day when a friend of mine had posted an item of theirs on her Facebook page to enter their ‘Tag It Tuesday’ comp – a really clever idea as it buys loads of exposure to the brand and clearly works as after browsing the site I left purchasing several rings!

I had been after a shield ring for ages, and whilst not really feeling the ones in Topshop was just going to pick some up from there regardless (you usually can’t go wrong with Toppers). However since spotting the more unusual designs on Chelsea Doll decided that they were a much better fit for me – who wants the same ring everybody else has?

The rings I received were the Snow Leopard Family Double ring, Antique Armour Full-finger ring, and the Statement Tribal Sheild ring. The two shield rings definitely feel like substantial pieces of jewellery, but I felt the Snow Leapard ring (double cat ring) was quite flimsy in comparison, mostly because of the way it can be resized – however you don’t notice this once they’re all on together. Still playing around with variations on how to wear them (the two shield rings throw me a little!) but I definitely get the look I wanted from them. *The other oval ring worn not from Chelsea Doll is one my mum bought me from Saudi.

Shoes
Shoes of interest: Yull Shoes are bringing out a shoe called Shelter, with 10% of all proceeds going to the charity Shelter to help the homeless over Christmas. A really lovely idea and the shoes are classically gorgeous, as all Yull Shoes are…And for all my fellow 2.5ers!  Sarah, their Creative Director, has assured me that all Yull Shoes will soon be available in our diddy size!!! Amaze! They’re thinking as soon as November/December time and I will personally be going down to the factory to check them out the minute they’re ready so expect a detailed report here first!

Suited and Booted

Well, as suited and booted as you’ll ever find me, I guess! Since the braces I’ve been embracing extreme fashion in the style of preppy/geek-chic. It’s mainly the glasses-braces combo but here’s a few other pieces freshly purchased this week that have been working well with the look..

Chelsea Boots

Topshop Allegra Black Chelsea Boots 1
Topshop Allegra Chelsea Boots
Topshop Allegra Black Chelsea Boots. £75

These chelsea boots have a platform and a nice chunky heel, soooo comfy. Perfect heel height, great for everyday wear and works nicely for some evening, too. The sole is a little slippery though – so much so I stacked it at St Martins Lane hotel on Friday night when I skid and fell on the floor! SO embarrassing. Easy problem to fix though.

I was a little annoyed that the only size 3 left in stock in my local Topshop was the display pair (eugh) but I still bought it. The goods news is they almost fit perfect! Have been noticing with Topshop that their shoe sizing is finally following traditional standard shoe sizing unlike most other stores going down the route of vanity sizing; meaning a size 3 is actually pretty small these days, just like it should be! Great news for us petite footed ladies.

Black Blazer

topshop petite black blazer 1 Topshop Petite Black Blazer
Topshop Black 3/4 Sleeve Blazer, Petite. £65

A nice, simple, slightly ill fitting black blazer complete with rolled up three quarter length sleeves. Perf. Surprisingly I don’t have many blazers or boyfriend jackets, my frame in general is a little too small to carry the look off, however this is pretty slim fitting whilst still having a nice strong shoulder that doesn’t drown me.

Both pieces are from Topshop, whose stock of late I have been loving! Everything I seem to buy these days is from there..

Very.co.uk

Very, the online clothing store, kindly sent me this fruits print dress from their cocktail dresses for review..

SNB10846x

I love the large fruit print, a trend I really like at the moment (still need to hunt down some big banana earrings which I’ve decided is the summer accessory of 2011!), and it’s great how Very have taken this trend on and made it accessible to the high street. Unfortunately however, being as small as I am it’s a little too big. This is a size 8, the smallest size it comes in, and although I can sometimes take an 8 in Miss Selfridge, Topshop and H&M, etc, this is quite a generous 8 in my opinion. I would really struggle to wear this out and about as it’s far too big and would just keep falling off. It has a zip at the back which goes down well below the waist, but I never even needed to undo it to slip it on which says quite a lot.

SNB10848x

The straps are removable and adjustable, meaning you can take them off completely or tighten them up so they fit nicely over your shoulder.

Some of the stuff from Very goes down to a 6, and in future I think that is definitely the size I would need to get. Shame this dress only went down to an an 8, as I really like the bold fruit prints and have wanted something with bold fruit prints on for ages!

The quality of the dress feels really decent, there’s some lining which makes it feel like a sturdy, weighty, well tailored dress. A really pretty knee length summer dress for regular sized ladies, just petite small framed ones need not apply! I might try and alter it as it’d be shame to not make use of that fantastic print..

Birthday Wish…

Isn’t it the most beautiful-lest thing ever? Vintage Chanel is one thing, but vintage Chanel in HOT PINK. Wowowowow. I am in lust overload.

image image

When it comes to designer goods I am not one to want the simple black ‘of the moment’ bag that everyone else is toting around, the one that in my opinion lacks originality in thought and style. Why be a sheep? Instead, I’d rather pick a piece that was fairly unique and that I really loved, something that also suited my style and showed my personality whilst still exuding luuuuux.

Far-fetched.com is a Luxury Clothing site that specialises in the best from boutiques of designer stock (vintage and not) from all over the world, including our very own London. Admittedly, it is a little out of my price range for everyday shopping, but if I was to to be treated to an item (note the word ‘treated) it would definitely be one of the shoulder bags… In a nutshell, something I could get away with wearing every single day so absolutely everybody who ever had the (mis)fortune of meeting me would know I owned such a piece of beauty and luxury! But that’s just me.

They’ve recently re-launched their website www.farfetch.com, so if you’re after something special for a potential birthday, Christmas, anniversary or even as a simple treat to self, it’s worth checking out.. If my ‘main’ birthday present hadn’t already been bought I could seriously see myself requesting that pink Chanel bag. I’m kinda wishing a generous millionaire will stumble across this post and take pity and randomly buy it for me. Here’s hoping..

Wedding Dress!

Well, not mine but for my friends’ wedding! I have never been to a traditional English wedding as I’m Asian (I know, weak excuse) so in the past have only gone to Asian family weddings. So I was really, really excited at the prospect of dressing up in something of my choice for once and not something my mum had forced me to wear. Thrill!

topshopdress

After lots of advice from friends (one of which advised, “nothing too short!”; she clearly knows me very well!) I ended up purchasing this lovely number from Topshop. Taking on my good friends’ advice, I bought it from the regular range and not the petite one thinking it might add a few extra inches of decency.

SNB13364

Topshop Vintage Floral Bandeau Dress, £45

I thought I did pretty well in my ‘English Wedding’ attire but a couple of my lovely friends commented it was more mafia wedding, one even went on to say, ‘Like a New Jersey housewife wedding – but that’s okay! I like that look!’. Er, cheers.

I teamed it with a matching coloured clutch bag, my mothers pearls (she gave me THREE sets to choose from, rich ma) and some strappy stilettos. Okay, strappy stilettos verging on stripper shoes. Whaaaa? They were the comfiest I had!

27775_393316365901_97621370901_3966036_6402277_n 27775_393316405901_97621370901_3966044_3151172_n

I should add here that I didn’t choose to wear lipstick with this outfit, I initially wore a natural gloss to balance my smokey eye, but I spotted a fellow ‘MAC Girl About Town’ wearer (they’re everywhere! I love it!) and she encouraged me to put some on at around 10pm. I think the outfit looked much better without.

SNB133888

Proof I didn’t start with slutty lippy! This lippy choice goes with the outfit much better.

So for my first English Wedding I think I did pretty well, the dress is so gorgeous and I hope I get lots of wear out of it in the future. However, maybe I should tone down the glamour a little next time; let’s just say there’s deffo room for improvement!

You can buy this dress (although the smaller sizes are getting snapped up fast) from www.topshop.com
