To be honest, I think it’s about bloody time a high street dry shampoo came out with this. As whilst there are more expensive brands that do stock dry shampoo’s specifically for different coloured hair, it was an expense I was completely unwilling to pay. Why pay luxury prices for a product that you only use at your most minging-est simply to make yourself look ‘okay’? Not amazing, just pass-able. Acceptable. Not me, that’s for sure.
So I bought this product, rather excitedly (it was on offer too, I think I only paid a quid for it; RESULT) and dashed off to the toilets to fix up and spruce my barnet. I shook the can (those who use dry shampoo know the drill), and in between shakes sprayed quick bursts of product into my roots until all the greasy parts were covered. As with the Original Batiste Dry Shampoo, it came out the same powdery white. I mushed my hair up, rubbed the product in to absorb the grease. And ..unfortunately there was still some white product residue left.
My friend helped rub the product in (don’t worry, she didn’t stick her fingers in my greasy hair or anything, just rubbed the surface) and it eventually disappeared. Then we quickly brushed through. What it left me with was gorgeous bouffant voluminous hair. Not flattened greasy hat hair which I was rocking prior, but decidedly fresher hair. I was pleased with the results.

Eek! You can still see the white residue! I could have worked harder in blending it in, it isn’t impossible to get rid of it I just did it quickly for these pics.
We go to the pub, and while the original lovely volume did collapse (I think the volume came from all the rubbing product in, rather than the product itself) my hair was reasonably acceptable. I did find the front bit (fringe, bangs, etc) start to get a little stringy but overall this did work decently in getting me a few extra hours of okay hair.
As I remember from all my experiences of using a a dry shampoo, not sure if this is the case for everyone, but the effects never really last that long. A few hours? I usually tend to carry it around and reapply every now and again if I’m wearing it at the start of the day, but this is perfect for if you decide to go for impromptu evening drinks and don’t have time to wash your hair first – it will certainly suffice for that.
How did I think the Batiste Coloured Dry Shampoo in Black compare to the original? Hmmm. In all honesty I didn’t really notice a difference. Maybe they’ve changed the original since I last used it but from my memories it was pretty much the same. Same white powder comes squirting out. Same white residue that needs a good rub in. Maybe it settles into black later on, but I genuinely didn’t noticed anything that made it more preferable for my hair than the original.
HOWEVER, because there is no difference and this one is specifically for black hair, I shall continue to use this as opposed to other variants – may as well, right? What harm could it do? And if there are extra benefits for us brunettes that I haven’t yet noticed, all the better!
Have you tried this yourself yet? What are thoughts on it?
