Current Favourites..

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion

I thought I’d do a post displaying my absolute three fave beauty products at the moment. These three items are definitely the most loved in my make-up kit right now and I typically always have them in my everyday make-up bag; two out of three are ‘repeat purchases’ which says a lot for someone who has tried practically everything out there!

GOSH Waterproof Eye Shadow Stick in Love That Copper
I’ve done various posts mentioning this product and have been using it religiously for the last six months. It is an amazing product, unbeatable lasting power, brilliant pigment and so easy to apply. Every time I wear it someone without fail comments asking what it is.. They’re so surprised when I tell them it’s a high street brand from Superdrug and only cost a fiver!

You can build up the colour beautifully (and what a great colour it is; a copper-ish, rustic orange), and once it’s almost ‘set’ a little blending out with your finger is all that is needed. And once it’s fully set, it won’t budge! If you find it in your local Superdrug, snap it up as I have a sneaking suspicion it might be discontinued soon as it took me THREE Superdrug stores to find it, and in the end I had to buy an opened one as that was all there was and I desperately needed a new one. :(

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Corail Poetique (No23)
Oh, how I LOVE this lipstick. It’s got nothing really to do with the texture or formulation, it’s not the longest lasting or glossiest lipstick in the world (although by no means the worst either; it is YSL, after all!). It is just simply a gorgeous colour. This is actually the third lipstick I’ve owned of this shade now, after the first two were lost. It’s not cheap, but I couldn’t be without it in my make-up kit. A gorgeous bright coral that is striking without being statement, a perfect warmer alternative for pale pink. You can wear it subtly or strongly depending on the look. Keep it cool though, as it becomes too greasy if it melts a little and that ruins how it wears – in ideal conditions it’s a creamy semi-matte.

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion Mascara
This is the only product that isn’t a repeat purchase, and if I’m perfectly honest it’s possibly the least loved of the three in the sense that I wouldn’t be devastated if I lost it (maybe something to do with the scarcity effect?). However, there is no denying that it beats all my current mascaras and the compliments over my lashes when worn never ends!

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion 1

It’s called Fusion because it combines the effects of two prior best selling Max Factor mascaras, to create volume and length. And it does. My lashes have never looked so long and they really do resemble falsies. Perfect separation and has yet to ever clumps on me, despite sometimes re-applying a minute or two after initial application which usually means The Layer of Death with other mascaras. I find it works better a month or so after opening, once the product has dried a little, but it was really effective from the beginning as well. Very stubborn to remove, mind. But that’s better than it running and smudging all over the place, right?

A vid of me talking ‘bout the same stuff, kinda..

DISCLAIMER: All three were PR samps originally, however the YSL Lipstick and GOSH Eye Shadow Stick were re-purchased by myself.

GOSH Nail Laquer in Miss Grey

SNB13275x

Last post of ‘nail week‘, and to end we have GOSH Nail Laquer in Miss Grey! I have waited soooooo long for this to come out ever since I spied it at the Superdrug Summer Press Show all the way back in February! For those that remember that post, this was the colour they painted on me paws and I did my best to keep it for as long as possible knowing it wouldn’t be out for another month or so. Goooorgeous colour.

Well, finally, after almost week after week of constant pestering I got sent one last week (not sure if it has hit the shelves yet, any week soon now, I’m sure), straight away I painted my nails in it. What do you think?

The pic above was taken at the Superdrug SS10 Press Show, clearly painted with a professional hand, not my novice one. It has topcoat and everything.

I really like GOSH nail varnishes, they have a great consistency and dry to a really shiny, glossy finish! I found them second to only Ciate when you needed a speedy paint job as they dried so quick! You could definitely paint and be out the door in five mins with this polish, but admittedly it’ll look great on that night but without a topcoat it can be prone to the chip as soon as the next day.

A lovely shade, just wish it came out sooner as it’s a bit too cool for Summer and would have been perfect for Winter!

Not sure the exact release date but GOSH Nail Laquer in Miss Grey should be out anytime soon, when it is out you can pick it up at Superdrug for £5!

GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Black Ink

I was sent a GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Black Ink (the blackest of the black, natch) for review. I had heard so much about this budget waterproof eyeliner, all good, so was really eager to see what all the fuss was about. Apparently, on some it lasts an amazing 6 hours on the waterline – wowzer!

SNB11719

The only eyeliner I have ever repeat bought was Mac Smoulder, which is great for achieving lovely smokey eyes and lining the waterline, but still, like most eyeliners, it seldom stayed ON the waterline. I’ve bought a few others that were purchased specifically for the waterline (hello Clinique Quickliner and Benefit Bad Gal Waterproof) but found neither of these really did the job either. Knowing some of these pricier brands failed to do the task at hand, I did have my doubts about how well this £5 product would work.. But all the reviews I’ve read of it had been so promising (not to mention a friend with perfect eye make-up swears by it) I allowed myself to get a little excited at the prospect of eyeliner that stayed on the waterline.

Well, I’ve now been wearing this product for the last two weeks and… I love it! It does last a really decent amount of time on the waterline (bizarrely, especially if I’m just sitting around the house – lasts literally all day!) and is so easy to work with. As it’s quite a soft pencil, it glides effortlessly across the waterline so you get excellent coverage with just one coat (I add another for luck) and then it sets, almost like a liquid would. However, being fairly creamy also makes it fairly smudgy, so if you like smokey eye make-up (ala moi!) this is a fab product as it smudges and blends so easily and then sets. But of course then, on the other end of the scale if you did want to just delicately line your eyes you might find this a little too strong and heavy to frame your peepers that subtly.

As with everything, I do have a couple of complaints, but only minor really. You have to sharpen this pencil A LOT. I have to sharpen it before every wear (not including touch-ups), as even if the pencil didn’t naturally wear down it’s so creamy in consistency the sharper you can make the point the easier it is to work with, which means you’re gonna go through the product real quick. But hey, it’s cheap!

I also found that when it sets it does sometimes feel like you have a dry coating of product on your waterline (which understandably is how it sets) and that isn’t the most pleasant of feelings, particularly when re-applying (adding product onto dried product on waterline, bit cringe).

And lastly, while it does last upto 6 hours of perfect wear in a nice, calm, non windy or wet environment (i.e. indoors), outside its lasting power is considerably less. Again, obviously because we are faced against the elements and are probably blinking and such much more, this is the reason why.

But in whole, compared to all eyeliners I’ve tried cheap and not so cheap, I think this is a brilliant product that I will repeat buy till a product supersedes it in brilliance!

SS10 new products from Sleek, GOSH, Bloom and more!

I went to the Superdrug Spring/Summer 2010 press day on Wednesday and here is the lo-down on the best new products to greet us in a month or two!

To start with I was quite impressed with Superdrug’s own sun care range Solait bringing out these gorgeous new bronzers!

The larger was a gorgeous dull brown, not orange, perfect for most complexions. And the shimmer brick, well, I have my heart set on that already…

Sleek have two new i-divine palettes coming soon.

And these gorgeous liquid eyeliners. They also have a yellow pout polish – woah!

Bloom are bringing out a gradual self tanner!

GOSH have these to die for nail shades coming out.

I actually got mine painted on the day with the very chic grey shade, although this unfortunately won’t be out for another month – sob! Hope this manicure lasts a while…

They also had two new priming products, and one line perfector – designed to fill in lines temporarily before make-up. The priming products were for the eyes and lips.
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Primer

And new lip glosses, including a black which is fairly transparent but apparently best worn over a lipstick as it intensifies the brightness and makes it really luscious! I wore it here over my red lippy.

New eye quattros, too. Notice the change in package design!

Now here is the biggest success of the day in my eyes – Famous by Sue Moxley. I had never heard of the range prior but it looked so beautiful and the quality appears to be amazing! Cannot wait to get hold of some of these products and properly test them out!
These eye palettes are only £9!

Shimmer Bricks..

So that’s my round up of the best upcoming products for Spring/Summer 2010 from Superdrug! What do you guys think? I’m itching to try them! Oh, by the way – Superdrug are offering free delivery till 9th February, so check them out online HERE.

GOSH Waterproof Eye Shadow Stick in Love That Beige, Love That Brown and Love That Copper!

I was sent these eye shadow sticks for review a few weeks back and have been testing them ever since. What appealed to me initially was that they were waterproof (thus sweat resistant), long lasting in wear and allegedly great as an eye shadow base. And I’m glad to report that that is all true…

I received these sticks in Love That Brown, a taupe shade, Love That Beige, a pale cream gold shade, and Love That Copper, a warm rustic copper shade.

L-R Love That Brown, Love That Beige and Love That Copper
The sticks come, unsurprisingly, in stick form which you roll up like a lipstick, taking away any need for future sharpening. They have quite a large nib, which I found worked well for covering the eye lid nicely, without being ‘pokey’ or too precise. If you wanted to apply the stick below the eye (along or below the lower lashes) it could get a little trickier as the nib is slightly too large but in general it was super easy to apply. A few strokes hap hazardly across the lid, and then smudged to blend in was all that was needed.

Swatched

Once on, I was genuinely amazed how well it wore. My biggest concern with cream shadows is creasing, and I couldn’t believe how these did not crease in the slightest – despite being a high st/drug store product. It actually, once blended and set, provided a matte finish, leaving your lids free of greasy residue. I was utterly amazed. I would re-apply possibly every 4 hours, just to brighten the colour as I did feel after time it dulled ever so slightly, but in general it stayed on fantastically, with zero signs of smudging, running and creasing.

You can also blend a few of the sticks together to get more dimension and tones with your eye make-up, and they worked well for doing this. Your lid never felt like it was over loaded with product. I often would use Love That Beige (the palest of the three I was testing) as a high lighter on the brow bone and so on, and I really liked the sheer look it could give. It actually was also perfect for using under another powder high lighting brow product, as it gave it extra staying power and more oompth, which leads me nicely to my next point.

As an eye shadow base it really was great, admittedly, I don’t really use eye shadow bases, I sometimes use my concealer/high lighter pen across that area but often I use nothing, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. However, as first impressions of any kind of eye shadow base goes, this was pretty decent. I really helped pick up pigment of the shadow you would use on top, and does help it last. Also, because of the shimmering shades, it was great for providing a little body and two tone to the lid, especially under smokey eyes, so your look isn’t too matte and block colour as it has some shimmer that catches the light nicely.

When applying as an eye shadow base, the trick is less is more. Too much coupled with a not brilliant eye shadow can lead to a little creasing (which the eye shadow would have done on its own ordinarily). So a light layer, blended out is all that is needed to hold your make-up. If you want to add a little shimmer to the lid area, once the eye make-up is pretty much completed, you can do so by gently dabbing and blending on the desired area with the stick, usually over the lid, as so..

Love That Beige (all over as base), regular black powder eye shadow, and then Love That Copper dabbed on the center.

In conclusion, a fantastic product that I am hugely impressed with. So far, GOSH has really won me over as a high street brand. If I’m not looking for much eye make-up, just a quick wash of colour over my lid to accompany strong lips or something, these are definitely my choice of product now! Out of these three shades, I’d say my favourite was Love That Copper as it seemed to suit my skin tone the best and really added some warmth to my eyes! However, all three shades will definitely be getting used for a long time by me, so all are winners!

Have you tried these shadow sticks? What are your thoughts? You can pick these GOSH Eye Shadow Sticks from Superdrug for £6, and there is currently a 3 for 2 offer so get in!.

GOSH Goodies!

Lovely lovely GOSH samples arrived through the post yesterday and I can’t wait to get stuck in to them for review! Especially excited about the tinted lip balms and shadow sticks; have heard very good things about the latter!

Read on for a sneaky peek and closer inspection..

Waterproof Eye Shadow Stick in Love that Copper, Love that Beige and Love that Brown
These are supposed to be fab as eye shadow bases too!

Soft ‘n Shine Lip Balm in 39 Sweetheart, 30 Barbie and 40 Irony
I’ve really gone well off glosses recently, but if I do want a shine to my pout I prefer really thin, sheer glosses or tinted balms so these do seem perfect. Plus has an added bonus of actually being good for your lips with SPF 15 and Vitamin E!

Giant Sun Powder in 001
This Giant Bronzer is made entirely from Minerals, and is great for delicate, sensitive skin as it allows your skin to still breath. Nice and big for use on the body too!
Effect Powder in Glamour
Apparently you can use this glitter powder wet or dry, as an eye shadow, eyeliner and also anywhere that needs a little sparkle. If you wanted a really dramatic look I can imagine this works great on top of the Shadow Stick!

So far I love the look of everything, and have already swiped one of the Soft ‘n Shine Lip Balms on and it does look and feel great!

Anything you want reviewed first? Just ask and I’ll get to it!

GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara

When a mascara is called Wonder Volume you expect it provide volume to your lashes, or atleast I do anyway. This GOSH mascara didn’t really provide volume, but it did make them super long and fairly well defined, so if your lashes are on the short and stubby side, this could be your dream ticket.

Unfortunately mine aren’t. I actually have pretty long lashes, but they are also very fine. When I use a volumising product, I really expect it to thicken my lashes rather than just lengthen them. In its defence the brush to this mascara is fantastic, you can really coat all your lashes evenly without any clumping, GREAT lash definition, and there is a little thickness at the base and as I mentioned it’s a brilliant lengthener, so in some respects it is a good mascara. But overall, there are better high street volumising ones if volumising is your thing. I can imagine myself using it on days when I want a natural, defined look but for days when I need a big, fake lash look I doubt I’ll be reaching for this unfortunately.
