Vintage from Brixton

I’ve just recently discovered this little place in Brixton called Brixton Village. It’s full of lots of lovely cafe’s and record stores and more than its fair share of vintage shops, all in Brixton. Who would have thunk it?

I took a stroll down there on Saturday with my good friend Thommy, I bought a bracelet for £3 and this hat for £8.

Whilst I was umming and ahhing over whether to buy the hat or not, I asked Thommy if it was an everyday hat or simply an occasional one. He replied, ‘Dahhhling, you’re completely asking the wrong person. Everyday is an occasion for me’. And he is completely right. I will blog about Thommy soon as he is starting a make-up course and is destined to be fabulous (I’m sure Alex Box is going to become his new best friend and I’ll be kicked to the curb someday soon), so once you see his get-up you’ll entirely understand.

Whilst I doubt I’ll manage to pull this hat off for everyday quite like Thommy would, it will deffo go with a few cocktail dresses and is absolutely perfect for weddings. I adore the way it just balances on the head, bendable and ready to be placed at any angle, so very versatile.

Must find an occasion to wear it soon.

Russian Bomber Trooper Hat!

My new Russian Bomber Trooper hat! It took me ages to find a bomber trooper hat that fitted all my requirements – I definitely didn’t want one of those pristine small chequered chav ones that all the, well, chavs are wearing. Mine had to have BIG FUR, look authentic and original and vintage-y and mostly, not mass produced and commercialised. Bit of a tall order but I managed to find one weeks ago which finally arrived earlier this week (just as the weather begins to get a little better, rad) and I love it. I’ve worn it a couple of times already and it is VERY warm, I had to take it off whilst on the tube as it got a bit too much, but still really really lovely and I will continue to wear it, even if my head boils in the process!

For me, I can wear this hat in three ways.

Really really tight, so like a Russian doll. This way fits my petite pois head best.

Half folded up, so it’s up but slouchy and not with the ears fully down like the boys wear it. This is the way I tend to wear it.
I searched high and low to get the perfect outer hat material – I love the green tweed.

And lastly, with the ears down like the boys wears it. I actually don’t mind this look on me, I even like it quite a lot, although I wouldn’t wear it like this all the time.
Isn’t the fur utterly gorgeous???

Very pleased with my Russian Bomber Trooper hat, well worth the £20 I paid for it! I’m actually hoping the weather stays shit for a bit longer now so I can wear it more often. Surely that’s one wish God can happily grant a Brit?
