Maybelline Superstay Powergloss – 330 Grape Glimmer & 145 Fresh Pink

I was sent these lipglosses a while back and was really excited to try them as the colours looked lush, but I did have my doubts about the ’12hr’ formula. In my experience, every product I’ve tried that has had a 12 hour or super long lasting tag beside it, along with the dreaded two-step application is usually plain horrible. It always leads to cracky, dry and uncomfortable lips after only a couple of hours of wear. Fair enough, I haven’t tried every brand out there, but No7′s foray into this type of product was awful (my lips were still suffering the next day and the next), and Revlons’ wasn’t that great either. But the thing that made me immediately take to these Maybelline glosses despite its two-step formula was the shades. They were pretty and subtle, they weren’t scarlet red or deep purple (like all of the other ones of other brands I’ve tried), they were just like your regular lipgloss but with longer lasting ability. So, as I said, I was eager to test these out..

Application
As with all of these type products, it comes with two ends that each have their own individual unique product. One end is the pigment, the ‘stain’ if you will, the other is the gloss and ‘care’. You apply the colour side to clean, dry, bare lips and let them dry (with your lips apart), then once fully dry you add the gloss.

Applying it was easy, although I did struggle to get to the completely dry phase. It felt a little gummy no matter how long I left it. In retrospect I think this is what makes it different from the other products of the same aim – as it’s not so dry instantly on your lips is makes it far more comfortable in the long run. Once I got the desired colour depth (a couple of layers), I’d wait for it to dry enough and then add the gloss, which instantly transformed them into less gummy and more divine sparkle and shine. I loved the look it gave.

Verdict
I’m a fan. Okay, so you’re not gonna get your full 12 hours here, that’s obvious ( – and would you even want to?! Dry horrible lips city!) but you do get many, many hours, only less if you eat, drink and smoke excessively, and even then it’d still last a great deal. The best thing about it is that it doesn’t in the slightest dry your lips out, quite the contrary actually; it made your lips feel like you had just applied balm and at the most you could feel soft dead skin on it (the soft dead skin is the product, I think, not actual soft dead skin). Admittedly, I did do a little kissing with the boy, and asked him if the lippy was still in place, but he couldn’t notice it, so unsurprisingly it didn’t last through everything. But I also think as these shades were so subtle on me he may just not have noticed I had anything on in the first place(boys are like that, if it’s not bright red you’re ‘natural’).

So yes, a definite thumbs up for me! If you want a long lasting gloss in pretty colours, give it a shot! You can pick these at Superdrug and Boots for around £6.99, click on the links to check ‘em out.

Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara claims to build your lashes up to 7x in volume with just one coat thanks to its mega brush and collagen enriched formula with thickening agents. If you’ve read any of my mascara reviews prior, you’ll know I’m one for big, luscious, bold, fake looking lashes that literally weigh down your eyelid with the weight of all those gorgeous fluttery feather like lashes! So this sounds like it could be just the ticket, but let’s see if Colossal Volum’ Express by Maybelline is all it’s cracked up to be..

Application
The good thing about this mascara is that it does come with a good, big brush, as described. I could coat my lashes easily and it didn’t clump – I usually wear two coats of mascara, sometimes three if it hasn’t dried (very important to not re-apply once mascara has dried!) and I need more ‘umph’. The Colossal didn’t provide 7x more volume with one singular coat as it claimed, but it did do pretty well after a couple of coats with lifting, defining and lengthening them. It also gave my lashes a beautiful curl instead of just shaping them into harsh, straight, stark mascara coated hairs like many other mascaras can tend to do.

Verdict
I do like this mascara, but it’s certainly not the best for the high street – however, there are some amazing ones in the high street so that’s hardly an insult! Also, not sure whether mine was faulty or whether they are all like that (if anyone else has this could please you let me know?) but it has seemed to dry out quite quick, and now, despite only having worn it for a few times within a month, it has started to look flaky and dry when I do wear it, and a little clumpy (especially if I try to do two coats). Maybe I need to wash the brush and see if it improves the dehydration as a month is far too short a shelf life, will report if do see an improvement. But in conclusion, for me, The Colossal has its strengths in lengthening and lifting, but volume? Hmmm.. not so much. A good mascara that is definitely better than many (but not the best!) and I will certainly continue to use it till it finishes, however I don’t think I will be repurchasing. The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara by Maybelline is available from Boots priced £6.99, and here is the direct link.

My First Maybelline Haul!

My first Maybelline haul! Can you call it a haul if you been have sent this stuff for review? Either way it’s a huge bunch of Maybelline things that I’ve never tried and it’s very exciting! I’ve decided I’m gonna start blogging these ‘hauls’ even before I get a chance to do the ‘in depth’ reviews as I don’t know about you; but I really like looking at pics of other peoples hauls and thought some might appreciate it!

So far, there has been no Maybelline on this blog whatsoever so I’m really excited about these products as they look so much fun! This is also my first intentional step into showcasing more high street/drugstore brands as I personally deliberate waaay more over purchasing a cheaper product under £10 than I would a product that cost £30! Mad, huh? I think it’s because you can’t test them out properly so it really is a blind purchase.
Anyway, onto the fun stuff!

So excited to try these 12hr lipglosses!
