Nail of the Day: Nails Inc Haymarket

Nails Inc Haymarket, a fresh, minty turquoise.. This isn’t strictly a Nail of the Day as I’ve had it on a few days now, so it’s actually a Nails of the Monday.. Or something. It’s pretty, has worn really well with a top coat and will probably stay looking fresh till the end of the week (I will prolly change it before then though). I find Nails Inc varnishes really vary in quality (or more, durability!) shade to shade, but this particular shade seems to be a good one that doesn’t chip within the hour.

I’ve heard mutterings of a Superdrug in Marble Arch selling ‘high street’ Essie varnishes for half the price of a standard Essie varnish, allegedly the only real difference between the two is the price..  MUST HUNT THIS DOWN.

Am I Desperate Scousewife??

This has in no way been intentional, it must have happened in the worst form of osmosis ever,  but whilst observing a recent episode of Desperate Scousewives I realised there were a few trends that my very Londoner self has apparently embraced! Don’t panic, they’re fairly minor – no walking around the high street in a full head of rollers or anything  - but still, there’s no denying the connotations involved.

Black Short Square NailsYep, I had a phase of doing the oval recently but now I realise I like my nails short(ish) and square, and black seems to be the colour of choice. In my defence it is Winter so it’s kinda season appropriate but I guess I could mix it up a bit with a larger variant of darker colours. I think the reason I am particularly loving black nails on me so much is because I believe I have found The Perfect Black.  Prior that a black nail never looked that great on my hand, but this gorgeous deep, inky ‘Black Taxi’ from Nails Inc is the most flattering black I’ve ever tried, and now I’m a convert.

Only downside to the polish is that it chips quite quickly, as with most Nails Inc polishes, but hey, a good top coat should help remedy that..

The Scouse BrowEugh, I’m even using their self-made terminology here.. But since discovering the BEST eyebrow palette I have become an even bigger fan of the heavily defined, full brow. In fairness I had always liked that look, I have a real dislike for razor thin, over plucked eyebrows, but I don’t think I have ever been able to carry it off so well in the past as I was lacking the equipment to make it actually look good and not garish. This HD Eyebrow and Eye Palette is a God send. I started using only one shade of the palette to begin with, the taupey colour, but now I have become bolder and started mixing it in with the darkest colour to achieve a really strong, full brow.I’m not gonna lie, I love this look on me and will not be shamed into thinking otherwise.

So there you have it, two products I am all over right now with some questionable (unintentional!) trend heritage!

Nails Inc Magnetic Polish!

There have been a ton of magnetic nail polish launches recently that I was actually pretty close to swerving this one by Nails Inc tonight, however I am so glad I didn’t as this was the first time I actually sat down and got my nails painted using the magnetic polish and.. WOW. Check them out.Actually couldn’t love them more! Admittedly this has been applied with an experienced hand (i.e. not mine) but it looked pretty simple as I was observing the manicurist at work. From appearances, once your nails have been painted you simply roll the magnet over the magnetic nail varnish in the direction you want the pattern (obviously not touching the varnish), and voila! Pretty magnetic design.Of the three magnetic colours launching  the shade I picked was Houses of Parliament, the other two shades are a silver (Trafalgar Square) and a gold (Big Ben). Not only are the colours all lush, but £1 of the £13 varnish will directly go to The Prince’s Trust charity.

Can’t vouch at all for lasting power, ease of use, et cetera et cetera et cetera, but it looks amazing and I’m besotted with them! The vampy purple colour actually really goes with my scary goth long nails (I did not intend for them to get that long! Will cut them next week, promise!). Here’s a quick snap I took on the way home with my rubbish camera phone.. The colour looks really gorgeous and inky here.

As I mentioned there are so many magnetic nail varnishes out at the moment, and I still need to test them (including this one) properly and will do so in one large comparative post, however just wanted to get this one up as thought my nails looked so purdy!

HUMONGOUS big thanks to Sheenie from Just Nice Things for taking these pics for me. Life saver.

Diet Coke Collaboration with Nails Inc: ‘The Catwalk’ Collection (& Blogger’s Competition)

So, erm. Whilst I like to consider myself as fairly artistic I think it’s pretty apparent from this little venture that this ‘skill’ is rather limited and definitely doesn’t branch out to the conventional paintbrush and paints form of art. As you may already be aware Nails Inc and Diet Coke have teamed up again to bring you four limited editions shades (titled ‘The Catwalk Collection’) worth £11 each, given away as a freebie from participating Boots stores with bottles of Diet Coke. Yes, it’s a fantastic offer, for every two bottles of 500ml Diet Coke you buy, you can pick one of these Nails Inc shades as your gift with purchase. To own the entire collection you’d only need to purchase 8 bottles of Diet Coke.. !

This year to mark the collaboration I was asked by Diet Coke to take part in a bloggers competition.. the prize was Prêt-à-Portea at the very swanky Berkeley Hotel, and to win all I had to do was customise a bottle of diet coke using the limited edition Nails Inc shades and some gems and stencils they provided, and erm, do it the best.

So let’s go through this step by step.

Here are my raw materials..

Looks pretty simple…

And here is my ‘creation’.

That’s my tag in the lilac gems, meant to read; MU 2 MO (Make Up to Make Out).

SNB18065

Well, I’ve obviously gone for the freestyle graffiti hoodlum art look, yeah, totally intended. Banksy would be proud (not).

Needless to say I don’t think I will be winning the prize but at least I gave it a shot, eh? And I have to say, this year’s Nails Inc have the hit the nail on head with perfect colour choices. Last year had the amazing greige shade ‘London’, but the rest of the collection I could have happily have left. In this Catwalk collection I can categorically state that I will be getting lots of wear out of every single shade. So spot on. Check out ma digits in Caramel… LOVE.

(Please ignore the worn off swatches on my desperately in need of hand cream hand, ta).

SNB13410

So, I promised I would do swatches (is that the right term for painting an entire hand?) of all four of the limited edition varnishes from The City collection by Nails Inc. In case you didn’t read my last post on the promotion here’s a quick recap; Nails Inc are doing a collaboration with Diet Coke where when you purchase two 500ml bottles of Diet Coke from selected Boots stores you get to take home one of these gorgeous varnishes for freeeeeee! This promotion will not go on forever, unfortunately, but you do have till 30th June so still plenty of time. Get picking!

I’ve changed the lighting and tones in some of these (so some of the backgrounds might be more blue) to depict the colour as close as I can to how I see it in the flesh. My camera is weird and doesn’t pick up pinks and purples well at all; turns them all way too vibrant and luminous!

My nails look pretty shabby in most of these pics as I did all of them (except London) in one afternoon solely for this post, so yeah I got a bit sloppy near the end. I just couldn’t bare to tear myself away from my absolute favourite of the set, London, for longer than an entire hour so this speedy technique suited me best. Considering I am currently living in that shade I may need to go buy a couple of bottles of Diet Coke and get a spare as at this rate I’m sure to run out soon!

Nails Inc – The ‘Diet Coke’ City Collection

SNB13405

I am one lucky lady as today (Friday) I got through the post the entire Nails Inc The Diet Coke City Collection! Swoon! If you don’t know the deal with this fabulous collection, each polish from the 4 piece set is the hottest on trend colour for this season, aptly named after the four fashion capitols of the world. What has Diet Coke got to do with this? Well, if you purchase two 500ml bottles of Diet Coke from selected Boots stores between 5th May to June 30th you get one of these lovelies for free! Usually one of these babies would set you back a tenner.

SNB13396

I painted my nails in London; it was the most instantly appealing out of all of the four shades as it was SO on trend, and I have to say it is the chicest greige I have ever come across! Definitely my favourite from my burgeoning Griege collection thus far.

SNB13398

What do you think? I’ve applied two coats and it set like a dream, I even did some clothes hand washing and it didn’t chip AT ALL! This is without topcoat, folks. So impressed.

I’ll have posts on all of the other colours worn once I’ve gotten over the excitement of this gorgeous shade and given them a shot, until then go grab some Diet Coke and take part in this brilliant deal! Just do it! Whoops, sorry, that’s Nike.
