£60 Hair Treatment for £2.19, Anyone?

In the past I’ve been a bit of a snob towards high street shampoos. I think it was something to do with a documentary I saw probably an actual ten years ago where it stated that all high street shampoos deposited silicones in your hair, which were baaaad, and they should be avoided at all costs and in place to use a salon standard product instead. I’ve hung onto this belief quite religiously until Pantene generously took me and a few other beauty bloggers to luxurious 5* Stoke Park Spa in Buckinghamshire for a day of gorgeous treatments, yummy food and lots of prosecco!

The beautiful Stoke Park Spa

I had an amazing time (definitely the favourite ‘event’ of the year!), but why did they take us all the way to Stoke Park Spa and why did this change my opinion on high street shampoos? Because I learnt (or they unveiled) that after vigorous blind testing against a £60 spa hair treatment, Pantene Pro-V delivered the same amount of smoothness as the £60 spa treatment. So much so, that Stoke Park Spa are now officially recommending it.

Addressing the silicone issue I mentioned above, it transpires that like the documentary I saw the formulations of high street shampoos back then were very, very old. These days the silicones used aren’t the heavy type that sit in your hair and stay there. These days they’re light and wash out with the next wash, not building up wash after wash as we had been taught to fear, dispelling the myth that high street shampoos were baaad for your hair. Well, at least not anymore, anyway.

So, want smooth hair worthy of a £60 luxury 5* spa treatment? Simply pop down to your local high street store and pick up Pantene Pro-V Smooth and Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner for just £2.19 each. I don’t think you’ll find a better mark down than that.

The New Face of Pantene and Me

Pantene had invited me to the extremely lavish Dorchester hotel on Monday to unveil the new face of the brand; the very lovely Cat Deeley! It was the first time I’d ever actually seen her close up and I hate to say it but she is gorgeous! And tiny! Obviously not in a height way but in a slender elongated model-like-bones way – cue jealousy from every single girl in the room. But she was so lovely you really couldn’t hate her.

Cat and I

The first half of the event was a question and answer session with Cat, and yep, you’ve guessed it, it actually doesn’t take much to make her look this good. She came across as a girl who loved simple, easy, low maintenance things so representing this brand and in particular the current Aqua Light range seems quite apt in retrospect. One of the products she did rave about was the Pantene Aqua Light Nourishing Mist, a product you could use on wet or dry hair that apparently works miracles. A trick to sexy beach hair with this (according to her) is to liberally apply the spray then simply split your hair into two sections, twirl each section into itself and then pin in place till dry. Then, once dry you just un-twirl and hello sexy beach hair!

I haven’t had a chance to test this particular product or technique out myself but I was given a generous goody bag of the entire Aqua Light range (alongside the most beautiful Alex Monroe necklace!) so will definitely be giving it a whirl this week – will keep you posted!

The second half of the event was our chance to chat to Cat and get treatments offered by The Dorchester Spatisserie. I was quite chuffed when Cat came directly over to me first and said she loved my dress and thought I looked gorgeous! Awww! Could she BE any nicer?! We chatted about vintage stores and favourite high street shops (hers are Topshop, Miss Selfridge and Whistles) and she asked which foundation I could recommend and what I was wearing (she currently wears Giorgio Armani, I said they were good but to also check out Bobbi Brown and Nars). She was genuinely a delight and so down to earth and friendly, a real sweetheart.

As I mentioned above we were offered treatments and I opted for a manicure (which incidentally I ruined within an hour of getting, typical Lina), unfortch I don’t have any pics of my talons but check out the divine manicure room at The Dorchester! Love love love all these Essie nail varnishes lining the wall!

So my first trip to The Dorchester was great fun and meeting Cat was a genuine pleasure! I have only tried the Pantene Aqua Light range once thus far (tonight, no less!) and have to say my hair is soooo soft and, er, light! Almost like it’s been washed with soft water and none of that vile hard water it is ordinarily always washed with (it still has been washed with that vile hard water, btw, but just doesn’t feel like it). The range was designed so every woman can achieve that freshly washed, weightless hair that goes ‘swishhhhhhhh’ and so far I’m definitely feeling it. But this has been written literally 5 minutes after the first wash and blow dry so let’s see how I feel in a few weeks…

The Pantene Aqua Light range starts at only £2.19 and is available from both Boots and Superdrug.
