Lazy Lina. I have even been quoted as saying, ‘life would be so much easier if you could do everything from your bed’. In my youth to avoid having to ‘mission’ it places by foot I invented a sickness called ‘walking sickness’, and in fairness it wasn’t entirely a made up sickness; I genuinely would feel intense distress at having to walk places. I just didn’t understand why we couldn’t get cabs or buses everywhere? Why suffer needlessly? But that was when I weighed 5 stone soaking wet and keeping fit was what meat heads or straight edgers did (same diff) and it wasn’t really anything I needed to worry about.
These days however, my lazy girl attitude is still very much in tact but I’ve had to adapt it slightly in order to keep some semblance of a figure. These days I like walking, it beats running, that’s for sure. And the only bit of exercise I can bear doing is to walk somewhere instead of taking the bus. Obviously I’m not gonna walk for hours but a twenty minute walk instead of a seven minute bus journey is totes doable. And what better way to maximise this little activity than by wearing some toning/shaping footwear – footwear that tone your legs and bum as you walk in them!
There are lots of types of toning footwear, Fitflops, Sketchers Tone-up and Reebok EasyTones. I’ve only ever tried one type and that was the Reebok ones. I was given a pair at a press event, and whilst they weren’t exactly my style (there was only one style available in size 3) I was still not gonna pass up the opportunity to utilise them. I wore them a few days later, out and about all day in town. This involved several 20 minute walks and I definitely noticed myself getting more tired doing the walks than usual. The next day, as soon as I got out of bed I noticed that my thigh muscles felt ‘worked-out’. Actually, my entire leg felt that way. Admittedly, the backs of my feet were a little sore from the trainers rubbing against them, but I know for a fact this was only because they were a little too big and that caused the rubbing (I’m a half size smaller than their size in reality).
Thrilled that results were so instantaneous, I decided I was going to wear Reebok EasyTone trainers EVERYWHERE. But first things first, I needed to find a pair that worked with my style. I found this pair of pumps, which I bought from ASOS for £65 (reduced from £85!) that were perfect. They had a cute old skool hip-hop edge to them (I’m not hip hop, but I am ironic), flashes of hot pink and most importantly – hi tops with velcro fastenings! To strap those 2.5 sized ridiculousness that I call my feet in!
Love them. So much more my style.
I’ve only worn them a few times and unfortunately, despite wearing far more comfortably than the other pair (my feet are nice and cushioned in, the velcro straps really help), I have yet to get that ‘worked-out’ feel the next day like I had prior with the other pair. I think what’s happened is the more fashionably styled the shoe is, the less effective it is. And I actually think this is fact, not just my made up theory. So, the ugly ones are probs far more beneficial in toning and so on, and the fashion ones are fashion with a teeny little bit of toning, but not much. What a conundrum. I’ll still keep wearing my gorgeous hi top pumps and maybe (hopefully) in a week or two I’ll write another post raving about how super toned my legs and bum are, and how they’re slow starters but they’re just as effective in the long run. Maybe.. Fingers crossed. Either way I’ll keep you posted.
