Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse SPF30

I know a lot of people have been raving about this mousse for eons now, but having never really gotten on with primers in the past I  dismissively thought this would be the same experience for me as the others were. However, check my video below to see my verdict after having tried it..

As, ahem, the video was a little bit all over the place (and man, don’t I talk fast when I’m talking to myself?), I’ve listed the pros and cons of this primer. Just as a quick summary of what the video has mentioned..

Pros:
Genuinely holds make-up all day.
Makes make-up look more even, polished and ‘finished’.
Comfortable, doesn’t dry out throughout the day.
Slightly mattifies.
Evens out complexion enough to be worn alone.
SPF 30!

Cons:
Very easy to squeeze too much product out!
Can make dry skin too matte and takes dewy-ness out of dewy make-up.
The packaging being a can; it potentially may not hold much product/potentially bad value for money.

Actually I may strike the last ‘con’ off as I can’t verify if it is true or not, just an inkling..

Picture of it all moussey..So the pros far outweigh the cons! The only primer I’ve tried as yet that I actually feel improves the look of my make-up, holds it in place comfortably all day (without drying out), doesn’t break me out and has a decent amount of SPF! It is pricey (around £30), but based on performance I think it’s worth the money and I’ll definitely be repurchasing when it runs out!

Shu Uemura Feathery Lashes!

What do we think of my feathery lashes?? Decided to get some feathery lashes to go with the feather in my hair, clearly! Hehe..These babies are from Shu Uemura, applied by one of their make-up artists. There was quite a selection to choose from, but these fluttery lovelies appealed to me the most despite them being pretty out there. In fairness, I don’t think they photograph as well as they look in reality; they definitely look much heavier in pictures! In reality I think they are far more wearable and less scary (honest!). Although having said that they are meant to be statement lashes so you are looking for a touch of the over amplified look with wearing them!As expected they took some getting used to wearing, and as it was applied quite near my tear duct in the inside corners of my eye it got a little irritable at times. However I think in future I just need to trim them so they fit my eye better and won’t dig in too much in that particular sensitive area. Other than that, I think they’re probably fairly easy to wear – providing they don’t fall off! But the good thing with these ones are you can definitely tell if one has come off as as soon as it happens you simply won’t see them balancing above your lashes anymore (or weighing them down, perhaps)!Jen Beauty Junkie in London took these two pics, thank you lovely!

Whilst the lashes don’t come with glue, the cool thing about them are that once you’ve bought your lashes, you can always pop into one of the Shu Uemura brow bars/stores and they will apply them for you for free – an unlimited amount of times! However one pair of fake lashes should last you about six wears.I generally don’t wear fake lashes, however if the right place popped up, somewhere really avant garde and cool, these will be perf for it! Maybe not just down the pub on a Tuesday night though.. and yeah, there is the fact that they are pretty scary too. ;)

Shu Uemura Nobara Stick Foundation

SNB15037x

I’ve tried a few stick foundations over the years, they are the great in-between product between foundation and concealer and are perfect for providing a little bit of coverage, just where you need it. And from the lot I’ve tried, my favourite is the Nobara Stick foundation from Shu Uemura.

What I particularly love about this stick foundation is that it’s very creamy, but not greasy. It also wears amazingly; my problem often with most stick foundations is that when you do manage to find a nice, creamy one (you want to avoid the ones with powder in as they cake) it disappears very soon after application and needs constant touch ups. Not the case with the Shu Uemura Nobara Stick Foundation. Once I apply it, set it with powder, I seldom need to touch up. For evenings out, I never do, but sometimes during the day a suuuper light dab here and there (I actually just rub my finger on the end of the stick and then apply as opposed to drawing stripes on the face) is all I need to keep my make-up looking perfect and fresh.

I was sent two shades for review, 754 and 734.

There are two ways you can wear this foundation, on its own as an all over foundation or how I tend to do it, in conjunction with a lighter liquid foundation. Most stick foundations are completely unwearable using the first method unless you like the ‘mask effect’ look. However, as this one is so creamy and a little goes a long way you could easily do a couple of stripes on the centre of your face, blend out and that would be your base done! It looks fine, not cakey or heavy but admittedly doesn’t last as well as when used with a liquid foundation.

When used with a liquid foundation it simply allows you to have a full coverage complexion, without it looking heavy. All I do is use a light foundation first (at the mo MAC Face & Body) and then on the centre of the face, around the nose, under chin, under eyes, etc. I use this stick foundation. It brightens up my complexion, makes it look even and radiant and conceals any redness the previous foundation may not have got. A great technique for subtle contouring and way better than cloggy concealer.

I really, really like this product and think it’s so versatile. At £30 it is quite pricey, but it’s gonna last you years (should I admit that I would use the same stick for years?!), I’ve had it months already and it’s hardly worn down at all, so definitely worth the money. For me it’s perfect, I don’t really need regular concealer as my skin is relatively clear but I like a flawless coverage and a full coverage foundation all over is far too heavy. This, combined with my regular light, dewy foundation, allows me to look flawless but fresh. Perfect.
