Hair Cut at Taylor Taylor, London

Ha, the picture above is not my new hair! Tis the before pic. I actually just came across it last night on Facebook (friend had posted it up) and thought it was pretty funny – check out those talons! “Go getcha weave on, gurl”! And look at the chub-beh little demon face! Needs to get on a diet, me thinks.

I did like my hair before, but it desperately needed a trim and I was getting kinda bored of the center parted thing – eeeeeveryone has one now so I thought I’d go counter culture and get a heavy side fringe. Retro.

I have a massive phobia of getting my hair cut, very rarely do I leave the salon without tears in my eyes. The worse thing about it is I always tip the bloody stylist £10 and pretend to love it! What’s that about?! They cut off my 6 months hard work of regrowing and I tip them! Anyway, when I was approached to review a hair treatment by Taylor Taylor, I jumped at it. Having quickly looked them up online I learnt they had stylists who had CUT Kings of Leon’s hair (not sure whether they did the infamous cut from beard and Jesus hair to hot young studs), and also boast The Klaxons and various other cool musicians as regulars. RIGHT up my street. I suddenly had faith in a hair salon again.

The Taylor Taylor salon I went to was in Commercial St (East end London), and is very quaint. The interior is so beautiful! All the staff are reassuring perfectly haired and well dressed – always a good sign. Not a fake tan or fake ‘french’ manicure in sight – phew.

I came in and asked the ever so lovely stylist Anna to give me a heavy, disconnected fringe that can be moved around (its’ parting changed), with the length long and messy, but choppy and a little bit fucked up with different lengths. I also admitted I never brushed my hair – only when it was being blow dried and that was it till its next wash. I knew she was my type of girl when she said she did the same thing! Why brush out all your hard work of messy voluminous hair? I just don’t get it.

One of the things I really appreciated in this salon was that they took you down to the basement to have your hair washed. That’s the part I usually hate most – everyone seeing you getting your hair washed and then looking like a drowned rat afterwards. After my hair was washed, Anna got to work. She’s a great stylist, really chatty and friendly and the time flew by.

She put some products in my hair to make it all beach hair-y and messed up, lovely and matte, but I got caught in the rain on the way back so it ruined it slightly! So the pics below are of me the next day, hair washed and simply blow dried by myself.

All I did was blow dry my hair, then added a teeeeny bit of clay matte wax to mess it up a bit. Like, seriously hardly did anything at all! Can’t wait to start experimenting and get more creative with it!

And yes.. my lovely length is still there! Yay!

I also really like how it looks with no product, blow dried straight – I reckon it’d look ace with some clip in hair extensions, just one or two wefts to add length and thickness.

I’m really happy with this cut, I especially like the fact that I can change my fringe parting from center to side to extreme side and it sits beautifully.

The prices at Taylor Taylor for a cut and blow dry vary from Junior stylist at £42 (ladies) to Senior Art Director at £70 (ladies). There are five levels in total and I think Anna was at Top Stylist. Pretty affordable in my opinion, and the service is so exceptional it makes it all worth it – I’ve never been offered a glass of champers at a hair dressers before!
