My New Athene Locket

I’ve been buying looooaads recently (hmmm, makes a change – not), literally just been wanting everything I see. I came across this locket on a site called This Charming Girl, a site that specialises in selling lots cute vintage inspired jewellery. This is the first time I’ve ever bought anything from them and I have to say from first experiences the customer service is outstanding – I ordered this locket late Wednesday night, only emailing them a few hours prior asking if they could prioritise my order so it arrived by Friday (yep, Friday THAT week). They promptly emailed back saying yes they would prioritise my order and it arrived bright and early Friday morning (despite not paying any extra for express delivery!)! What lovely people.

The locket itself is called the Athene Locket, and was priced at £13.50 (plus £2 shipping). It’s a Grecian cameo set in a gold locket, with an 18″ gold plated chain. Being a locket it also opens up so you can put things inside it! One of the things I like best about it.

I do like this locket but have to admit it’s a bit of a Monet. From afar it looks fine, even lovely, but up close, especially when you touch it it does feel a little plasticy and light. I would have ideally preferred it a lot weightier. I will probably switch the chain for something I feel looks more substantial and less flimsy and this will hopefully make it look less costume.

Although this locket didn’t entirely live up to my expectations, there are a couple of lockets I’ve since spotted that are smaller and more subtler than this one which I think will genuinely look lovely in the flesh (ironically, I originally wanted just a plain vintage gold locket when searching the site, nothing too big nor small, just something simple, but predictably got carried away and chose this). I reckon the simple things from them would be much prettier and will definitely still consider purchasing them. I’ve also (being the greedy shopaholic that I am) ordered some pieces from another similar site just today so it’ll be cool to check out how they’ll come out when they arrive too – I’m quite excited about the second lot of goodies I’ve got coming actually, but then I should remember I’m always naively that way when I first lay eyes on a new website (massively gullable, or I prefer the term ‘Optimistic’).

Have you guys bought anything from This Charming Girl? Or know of any other good places to pick up quality vintage inspired bits?
