YSL La Laque Couture!

Two brand spanking new YSL nail shades have just landed on my doorstep (okay, it was two days ago, but still, very new!) , Rose Futuriste* and Beige Leger*..  Which do you like best? They are both from the freshly released La Laque Couture range, a collection of 30 ‘lacquers’ in timeless new shades in celebration of their Couture legacy. I have to say, personally I’m a fan of the Beige Leger more as it’s just the most beautiful mink nude, am besotted with this colour! But both are gorgeous and a dream to apply – definitely recommend a top coat though to stop that chipping, although one is included in the 30 piece collection, so there you go!

Have a gander and a little drool over the rest of the collection below..Divine, no?

Eek! My first make-up tutorial (kinda)..

So you know how I’m always rabbiting on about how much I love the YSL Glossy Stain in Violet Edition? Weeeell, considering I’ve been pretty much living in it here is a little video I made showing how I wear it (and with which other make-up trends!)..

I’m rocking the no mascara, strong brows and glossy vamp pout for this video. Be kind please, ’tis my first proper tutorial type thingy! I know it’s a bit annoying that the top of my head crops out of the video most of the time – will make sure it doesn’t happen for the next one!All the products featured in the vid..The YSL Glossy Stain really is the ultimate lip product for a strong, statement lip. Great pigment, outstanding lasting power and so easy to apply – you can get such a well defined, power lip with zero need for lipliner, just apply it straight from the wand! It also miraculously doesn’t smudge all over your face despite being so glossy, you know how when some of your hair gets caught in your lippy and you end up with a massive hair line mark of colour across your cheek? That. This doesn’t do that.. Ever!

Some pics of it on, one from today and one from, er, before today.Isn’t it just the most beautiful colour?

So ya, that was my first tute! :D

50 Golborne Road..

I’m typing this in bed, on the verge of puking after an indulgent night that started innocently at my friend’s vintage store in Ladbroke Grove. The shop is called 50 Golborne (makes remembering the address handy!) and it is seriously going to damage my bank balance! One of the reasons I love vintage clothing is because it’s often soooo tiny and everything fits! Especially the shoes! Fiona, my friend who is an investor (and very invested in general!), kept digging out all the things they had that didn’t fit anyone else and it all fit me perfectly! I’m going back next week to do a proper shop, as I was worried I’d lose stuff if I tried to take it home then (as we were going out after), so I’ll also cover it and all its wonderful stock then! Some of the pieces in there were so lovely.. The picture is of me drinking a cup of tea in their Princess Diana novelty section (haha), it also displays the River Island wedge hi tops sideways as Amrita requested a sideway shot on twitter. ;) Me and Fiona both wore YSL Glossy Stain in 01 Violet Edition* last night - in love with this lip product. Everything about it, the wand that makes applying it super simple and perfect every time, the outstanding lasting power that doesn’t bleed or dry lips out and of course, the colour! Wonderfully flattering for such an intense look! This pic was actually taken quite late into the night (on the tube!), after several hours of drinking, talking, etc. Such an impressive product!

YSL Rouge Pur Cuture in Fuchsia Innocent and Especially Escada..

I’m very much feeling pink lippy for this Summer, and have a lovely one here by YSL – it’s a YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Fuchsia Innocent! It’s very creamy, but not glossy, which is exactly what I wanted (so over gloss right now). The colour’s fab but I do wish it was a little bit more neon, however it’s great as a day time lippy and as it’s so creamy wears really well and lasts ages on. I applied three coats, blotting in-between each, to get the colour pay off I wanted.

I’ve kept the rest of my make-up pretty bare (no eye make-up) as I thought I was getting a facial later and didn’t want them to have to take a million layers off, but with a brightish lippy it’s kinda nice to keep the rest plain anyway. Plus, the no mascara look is so in right now!I’m also wearing Especially Escada, a lovely rich, rose fragrance. It’s perfect now the weather’s getting warmer as it’s lighter than my usual Thierry Mugler Angel but is also quite opulent in its own right, and once applied lasts the whole day on me! It’s probably quite a mature scent, however I tend to go for those anyway so it works for me..

I’ve recently discovered that whilst I thought I was allergic to perfume because of my eczema, In actuality I’m just allergic to Eau de Toilettes! As they have a high alcohol content, you see. Eau de Parfums on the other hand are fine as they are pure and not diluted with alcohol! After years of only wearing perfumes occasionally and for special occasions, I now can wear them daily with no consequence. Wish I had discovered this earlier.. Oh well, better late than never. :)

Glossy vamp lips via YSL, meet Daisy Lowe and free tix to the Vitality Show!

With Spring officially started the last thing I feel like doing is still wearing the Winter/Autumn trends in dark colours. However this YSL Rouge Pur Couture A Levres Glossy Stain in No1 Violet Edition* landed on my doorstep on Saturday and I have to say, it’s made me think it’s time for an exception! Despite the fact that it is dark, and vampish, it is also incredibly glamourous and flattering. I have a couple of dark lip products that are great for producing a matte dark lip, but I’ve only worn them on occasion and haven’t really taken properly to them. However despite my current distaste for gloss (I’m sure it’ll pass, I’m just on a matte phase at the mo) I really think the glossy version is heaps more wearable. It just looks better!I’ve been wearing this the last couple of days and the quality is hands down the best for a dark lip product, stays in place (no bleeding!), keeps lips moisturised and super long lasting – about 4 hours plus without a touch up! And when eating or drinking it doesn’t smear all over your face, it just fades a little in the center and the rest is still pretty presentable. I just apply mine straight via the wand, no lipliner (although you could if you wanted I guess) and it spreads great. Keep applying till you get the desired, even depth and that’s it! Really very easy to wear. I think it looks great with clear, healthy skin and minimal make-up; I’m wearing it above with no other make-up as I was just trying it out at home at the time but probably wouldn’t wear that much more when wearing out as I think keeping the rest bare suits it.

Current Favourites..

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion

I thought I’d do a post displaying my absolute three fave beauty products at the moment. These three items are definitely the most loved in my make-up kit right now and I typically always have them in my everyday make-up bag; two out of three are ‘repeat purchases’ which says a lot for someone who has tried practically everything out there!

GOSH Waterproof Eye Shadow Stick in Love That Copper
I’ve done various posts mentioning this product and have been using it religiously for the last six months. It is an amazing product, unbeatable lasting power, brilliant pigment and so easy to apply. Every time I wear it someone without fail comments asking what it is.. They’re so surprised when I tell them it’s a high street brand from Superdrug and only cost a fiver!

You can build up the colour beautifully (and what a great colour it is; a copper-ish, rustic orange), and once it’s almost ‘set’ a little blending out with your finger is all that is needed. And once it’s fully set, it won’t budge! If you find it in your local Superdrug, snap it up as I have a sneaking suspicion it might be discontinued soon as it took me THREE Superdrug stores to find it, and in the end I had to buy an opened one as that was all there was and I desperately needed a new one. :(

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Corail Poetique (No23)
Oh, how I LOVE this lipstick. It’s got nothing really to do with the texture or formulation, it’s not the longest lasting or glossiest lipstick in the world (although by no means the worst either; it is YSL, after all!). It is just simply a gorgeous colour. This is actually the third lipstick I’ve owned of this shade now, after the first two were lost. It’s not cheap, but I couldn’t be without it in my make-up kit. A gorgeous bright coral that is striking without being statement, a perfect warmer alternative for pale pink. You can wear it subtly or strongly depending on the look. Keep it cool though, as it becomes too greasy if it melts a little and that ruins how it wears – in ideal conditions it’s a creamy semi-matte.

Modelling all three products..

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion Mascara
This is the only product that isn’t a repeat purchase, and if I’m perfectly honest it’s possibly the least loved of the three in the sense that I wouldn’t be devastated if I lost it (maybe something to do with the scarcity effect?). However, there is no denying that it beats all my current mascaras and the compliments over my lashes when worn never ends!

Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion 1

It’s called Fusion because it combines the effects of two prior best selling Max Factor mascaras, to create volume and length. And it does. My lashes have never looked so long and they really do resemble falsies. Perfect separation and has yet to ever clumps on me, despite sometimes re-applying a minute or two after initial application which usually means The Layer of Death with other mascaras. I find it works better a month or so after opening, once the product has dried a little, but it was really effective from the beginning as well. Very stubborn to remove, mind. But that’s better than it running and smudging all over the place, right?

A vid of me talking ‘bout the same stuff, kinda..

YSL ‘Bohemian Chic’ Spring 2011 Collection (Swatches)

On your marks, get set, drooooooooooool….

SNB18812

Probably my favourite thing about every season, getting the new YSL collection.. Bohemian Chic is a gorgeous array of perfect corals and delicate pinks, with just a sprinkle of fuchsia. I genuinely believe this is my favourite seasonal collection from YSL thus far that I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing, these colours are ridiculously divine and oh so prettifying.

As the collection literally just landed on my doorstep, this is just a swatches post for all those too impatient to wait for the real, weighty reviews. However I have been wearing some of the colours already so can provide a teeny bit of input..

SNB18813

Rouge Pur Couture

Only one lipstick from above is part of the actual Bohemian Chic Spring Collection, the others are simply new Spring releases within the Rouge Pur Couture range.

No26 Rose Libertin (part of Bohemian Chic collection)

SNB18816

No23 Corail Poetique

No25 Taupe Raphael

SNB18862

Left to Right: No26 Rose Libertin, No25 Taupe Raphael, No24 Blond Ingenu and No23 Corial Poetique.

If you can’t guess from the slightly grubbier bullet, my favourite is Corial Poetique, so much so that I couldn’t even wait for it to be photographed before trying it on! I have been wearing this all day and it is lovely. Lasts pretty good too, and the texture (of all these lipsticks) is a creamy light matte, which just so happens to be my preference of late. Beautiful.

Manicure Couture No5 Duo Favorite Chic

Time to start practicing the now iconic YSL mani.. Bohemian Chic boasts this gorgeous nail varnish duo that comes with an angled brush for multi purpose use.

SNB18855

SNB18861

SNB18856

This is the first time I’ve attempted doing my tips freehand with the angled brush, it’s easier than a regular brush but I definitely need a little more practice..

It chipped in the shower this morning :(

Creme de Blush

SNB18831

I do love a cream blush, admittedly these are the ones that set to a powder finish (not really my preference for a cream blush) but I’ve found they aren’t matte at all, the powder finish is actually pretty undetectable on the skin. Easy to apply and builds beautifully. Very fresh and radiant!

Again, similar to the lipsticks only the shade directly below is part of the Bohemian Chic collection, the remainders are new Spring releases!

SNB18840

No5 Temptation Fuchsia (part of Bohemian Chic collection)

SNB18835

No1 Velvety Peach

SNB18838

No2 Powdery Rose

SNB18849

Left to Right: No5 Temptation Fuchsia, No2 Powdery Rose and No1 Velvety Peach.

You may notice that there are no eye pieces included above, I actually requested no eye palettes or shadows as it was another that contained a blue and I am up to my eyeballs in blue Spring collections so decided to skip it this year.. The lips and cheek products were clearly the stand out gems for me.

Full reviews should be up next week…
