Oh la laa! I have been lipstick testing crazy these last few days, and have a whole bunch of new reviews ready to be posted! The first one to start this series of reviews will the completely unexpected surprise of Barry M Lip Paint in 117 Orange.
I’ve only ever tried one other lipstick by Barry M and that was A-maaaay-zing! Was so not expecting it to be as good as it was but it really has become one of my favourite lipsticks now, and almost two thirds cheaper in price than the other favourites which definitely bodes well! So I obviously decided I wanted to test a few more colours, and orange seemed like a fun colour.
I had this sent to me, I didn’t go to a store and pick it out myself, and the only info I was going by was the shade name ‘Orange’. When I received it I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to be a muted as it is, I guess I had imagined it to be a more darker but still bright, luminous orange, with a hint of red maybe. I would class this shade as a Mango rather than Orange really. But anyway, being a good beauty blogger I still tested it out for you and that actually completely worked in this lipsticks favour and turned it all around for me..
Application
Well it’s a lipstick, I have many lip brushes but I always prefer applying it straight from the tube, it looks way better on me this way. The other lipstick I tried by Barry M was 145 Punky Pink, and that literally glided onto my lips, almost like an intensely pigmented paint. This one, Barry M Lip paint in Orange, was a slight different texture, more creamier and a touch more matte, but in a really rich, moisturising way. It actually reminds me plenty of Mac Lipsticks in Matte formula.
Verdict
Well, I guess this shade is an acquired taste – at first I thought it looked really pukey on me, a bit too milky. But now I really do like it on. I love the brightness of it, and how it is almost luminous. Still not sure whether I’d have the guts to wear it out, or even, whether I’d choose to put this on instead of a less hard to understand fuchsia, shocking pink or red, but I would really like to. I’m sure once I step out in it once people will (hopefully!) comment positively about it and I’ll be fine after that, but it’s always that first initial outing that’s the hardest!
Texture, lastibility, comfort – perfect. Barry M do such amazing quality lipsticks, although worth mentioning again – they are in a multitude of different formulas (I’m not sure how many in total) so the brighter colours tend to be better (in my opinion) as the pigment and staying power is stronger. I would seriously check them out if you want a high street/drug store lipstick for bold, statement lips; probably the best you could get in the high street. It was a comfortable wear all day, reapplied a few times and it didn’t go horrible and dry. Similar to Mac Matte lipsticks, it stays in place too, no unslightly bleeding or smearing. A genuinely great lipstick. I just need to grow a pair to wear it out now!
