For those that can remember my review on Ciaté Paint Pots in Snatch (a gorgeous ruby red) they would have discovered that I was head over heels in love with it. Unfortunately though, Ciaté Paint Pot in Ghetto Fabulous wasn’t as big of a love.
As with all gorgeous Ciaté Paint Pots, it comes in a beautiful traditional glass nail varnish pot, with a black plastic lid with an adorable little bow made of tiny ribbon, it really does look utterly beautiful, definitely one to have out on display on the dressing table.
Application
For all nail varnish reviews, I only ever apply a basecoat and then the product; I never apply a top coat. Although usually a topcoat is recommended, there are times us gals don’t have the time to give ourselves a full manicure so it’s important to know what will keep up with our fast pace in those such circumstances.
The first coat of this varnish was a little disappointing, very pale and streaky. I soon realised I would be needing a few more coats than the obligatory standard two to get the desired effect. Three, four coats down the line and I’ve got a fairly good depth of colour, however it’s not an inky, jet black black that I had hoped for, it just ever so slightly came a little short in my opinion. For evening it is fine, gorgeous even, but for daytime I felt it just wasn’t deep enough.
The good thing about all Ciaté Paint Pots is that they take absolutely no time to set, and this was no exception. I had done my nails, waited ten minutes and they were fully dry by then. They are relatively glossy, and it’s certainly more than passable but as it is a black I would ideally use a good shiny top coat on top to get a really dramatic effect. Without a topcoat you could wear this varnish on your nails for about three to fours days before the chip noticeably sets in, but again with a good topcoat it will last a great deal longer, I imagine two weeks.
So in conclusion, although I LOVED Ciaté Paint Pots in Snatch, Ghetto Fabulous just wasn’t AS perfect for me colour wise. I can imagine for many this is more than fine for them, but I really wanted an intense, dark, inky black. A shame really because everything else about it is excellent, dries fast, quite glossy and fairly durable; however I like my black nails to be a tiny little bit deeper and darker..
