Clinique "High Impact" Mascara

I got a small sized version of this mascara as part of my free gift during one of Cliniques’ fabulous bonus times. Unsurprisingly, because it of its name, this was their volumising, lengthening, thickening, show stopping extravaganza that also boasted lash separation. So of course I was going to give this a try!

When it comes to lashes, I like mine BIG. I see no point in a natural looking mascara, if anything, I want mine to look fake. Being fortunate enough to already have fairly long lashes, the problem I had with mine were that they were too thin. My main objective with a mascara was for them to thicken my bad boys out.

The brush to this mascara is good, nice and big and it adhered well to lashes upon application. For a big lash effect mascara, I was surprised at how thin the consistency of the product is. The first time I had tried this mascara, it was on top of heavy eye make-up that I had been messing around with whilst bored. Smokey jeweled green. Applying this mascara with that eye make-up was a treat. It glided through my lashes, without feeling heavy or cloggy, and best of all, it make my eye make-up ‘pop’, as it lightly defined the eyes without being over bearing. I was loving how it accentuated everything, instead of taking over. Not being used to such a light, thin but defining mascara, I was definitely starting to see the error of my ways on the pros of this. It worked BETTER than my usual mascara for this kind of eye make-up, a perfect marriage.

But the real test was to come when I had less eye make up on. Let’s try none.
Below I’m wearing Clinique High Impact Mascara on my right eye, with nothing on my left.
It looked ok, I did have to apply a few coats to see some difference. Definitely lengthened and separated, but not so sure about volumising.

Here I am again (below) with Clinque still on the right eye, but my regular (L’oreal Lash Architect) on the left. I had to use more coats with the Clinique to get a reasonable effect than with the L’oreal Lash Architect. As you can see, my cheaper, almost dried out Lash Architect whoops the Cliniques High Impacts’ ass!
So, what is my verdict? Well, I will continue to use Clinique High Impact until it runs out. It is a good mascara (if you know its place!), but definitely no contender for the other big lash mascaras out on the market, like say for instance, Dior Showgirls. I would really only use it for when I don’t want my lashes to be too full on, when I want definition and length only, as it excelled at that. But imagine trying to use this mascara if you had a simple liquid line, and wanted some big beautiful lashes to give it that extra ‘pow!’ factor? This would not do the job.

It is priced incredibly reasonably, around the £13 mark only, which is really only a couple of quid above high street. However, for big luscious lashes, there are far better for cheaper IN the high street!
