Maybelline Superstay Powergloss – 330 Grape Glimmer & 145 Fresh Pink

I was sent these lipglosses a while back and was really excited to try them as the colours looked lush, but I did have my doubts about the ’12hr’ formula. In my experience, every product I’ve tried that has had a 12 hour or super long lasting tag beside it, along with the dreaded two-step application is usually plain horrible. It always leads to cracky, dry and uncomfortable lips after only a couple of hours of wear. Fair enough, I haven’t tried every brand out there, but No7′s foray into this type of product was awful (my lips were still suffering the next day and the next), and Revlons’ wasn’t that great either. But the thing that made me immediately take to these Maybelline glosses despite its two-step formula was the shades. They were pretty and subtle, they weren’t scarlet red or deep purple (like all of the other ones of other brands I’ve tried), they were just like your regular lipgloss but with longer lasting ability. So, as I said, I was eager to test these out..

Application
As with all of these type products, it comes with two ends that each have their own individual unique product. One end is the pigment, the ‘stain’ if you will, the other is the gloss and ‘care’. You apply the colour side to clean, dry, bare lips and let them dry (with your lips apart), then once fully dry you add the gloss.

Applying it was easy, although I did struggle to get to the completely dry phase. It felt a little gummy no matter how long I left it. In retrospect I think this is what makes it different from the other products of the same aim – as it’s not so dry instantly on your lips is makes it far more comfortable in the long run. Once I got the desired colour depth (a couple of layers), I’d wait for it to dry enough and then add the gloss, which instantly transformed them into less gummy and more divine sparkle and shine. I loved the look it gave.

Verdict
I’m a fan. Okay, so you’re not gonna get your full 12 hours here, that’s obvious ( – and would you even want to?! Dry horrible lips city!) but you do get many, many hours, only less if you eat, drink and smoke excessively, and even then it’d still last a great deal. The best thing about it is that it doesn’t in the slightest dry your lips out, quite the contrary actually; it made your lips feel like you had just applied balm and at the most you could feel soft dead skin on it (the soft dead skin is the product, I think, not actual soft dead skin). Admittedly, I did do a little kissing with the boy, and asked him if the lippy was still in place, but he couldn’t notice it, so unsurprisingly it didn’t last through everything. But I also think as these shades were so subtle on me he may just not have noticed I had anything on in the first place(boys are like that, if it’s not bright red you’re ‘natural’).

So yes, a definite thumbs up for me! If you want a long lasting gloss in pretty colours, give it a shot! You can pick these at Superdrug and Boots for around £6.99, click on the links to check ‘em out.
